Just read that Danforth did not practice today and that Voronkov, in an orange jersey, skated in Danforth’s place. Anybody know if Danforth nicked up, illness or just personal/maintenance day? That line has been awesome since Danforth got back, and yes Olivier gets loads of credit too - just want that line intact as long as possible.

Sillinger/Olivier/Danforth/JVR/Kuraly/LaBanc/ZAR for me
it's all relative based on role, though.

if you're asking one of those guys to fill in on the second line, it probably goes sillinger > JVR > lebanc. but if you're constructing a fourth line out of those guys, the ZAR-danforth-olivier trio has looked incredible together over the last couple games.

maybe it doesn't pop as much on tv, but i've been impressed watching ZAR in person this year. looked really good to me in a bottom six + PK role.

ZAR is 30, there is a reason he didn’t have an NHL job last year and Columbus could claim him on waivers He is a 13th-14th forward, best case.

That line HAS been great, and it’s been 75% Olivier. He has been amazing.

i don't disagree, but i don't think that line would work nearly as well with JVR or lebanc as it does with ZAR.

i think they have guys who are more talented and maybe 'better' players, but i don't think those guys would necessarily be more effective in that specific role. and that's fine. even if ZAR is a plug, he's not going to hurt the team if he's playing in his ideal role, which right now he is.

You could be right, of course. And the "good?" news is we probably have a few weeks until one of the forwards are healthy and LaBanc could do his annual 4 week vacation while actually playing. LOL

I have decided that I am judging Waddell entirely by whether or not he manages to sign one of Gavrikov or Pettersson this next offseason.

disclaimer: there is some probability that this is hyperbolic nonsense
I was actually thinking about Gavrikov again,I wonder how good he would actually look in this system. The skating would be demanding be we all know we could use a steady body back there. That said, resign Provorov and I'm happy

I am mildly uncertain about Provorov. On the one hand, the way he's playing right now on his offhand side is good enough that it's making me question basic assumptions about reality. On the other hand, it is a contract year. So IDKWTF.

I think Gavi is a great skater. Fast and rangy. But he won't be weaving the puck in the high zone like Provorov can.

I'd be all about trying to lure Gavrikov back.

I get the contract year thing. But on the other other hand, he's finally playing in a system that uses his strengths that made him a top pick way back when. He's also done well when he's had good partners. He can't really be THE guy, but he can work with the guy. His best Philly year was paired with Niskanen but he couldn't really reach that level with lesser partners. Playing with Zach and being asked to use his legs more has been so good for him and us as fans

The way Marchenko and Chinakhov are playing i wish Don took a risk to lock them up longer to save $$$$ in the long run.
Are they even able to negotiate with them right now ? Their deals are years from expiring

Agreed, I think we should not only consider the contract year but the new system as well. Besides, Provorov was really good in the beginning of the last season until everything went to crap

fair enough, but I get their hesitation with a long term deal especially for Chinakhov
Yeah it was fair from Waddell's perspective. These guys haven't broken out yet, there was the stink of last year and he was completely new to the team. That said, Nash and company should have been in his ear pushing for more unless they simply bet on themselves.

Does Kevin Labanc have a chance to stay with this club when all injured players come back ?

I see that he has 5 pts in 7 games with 11 minutes of ice time only ...
