Utah has some defensemen out long term and word is they're calling around for help and kicked tires on Provorov. I think it's a likely spot for him to go, new market and the owner will be aggressive to be successful in their first year.

If it's just a pick on offer then I don't think we bite, better to make a deal at the deadline. But if they're offering a youngish roster forward like Maccelli, I'd kick the tires on that. I bring up Maccelli because he's like a spare forward for them. Small playmaker, doesn't shoot but racks up a ton of assists.

I feel like it would send a pretty shit message to the room if we sold in October at 3-3. If it's a hockey trade who knows though.
Agreed, I think the real question is how much does management think the coach can keep players focused on improving effort and developing skill. Management is facing the most difficult season any management team has ever faced in my opinion and the question is how much can you do this season to set the team up for success in 2026 and beyond. Barring an unbelievably good offer (i.e. unprotected 1st, 1st rd pick +) I think you have to wait until TDL just to maintain some continuity.

Words straight out of my mouth - I'd love to get Maccelli on the CBJ. And not just because of the obvious Finnish connection lol.

Provorov for Maccelli straight up. The team would be so fun to watch with Maccelli. He's such a fun player with a high hockey IQ and superb passing. I haven't watched him enough to know if he's got defensive issues or if plays die on his stick more often than the highlights show, but he's exciting offensively. Maybe I'd even throw in a small sweetener, Maccelli has one more year after this (but at 3.5M or so, he's already getting paid quite a bit and isn't some super great value deal as such).

Realistically we should probably just ride this team for a little while longer, they've played really well all things considered. But I'd love a Provorov for Maccelli trade.

Makes no sense to trade Provorov now unless they get the kind of offer I doubt they will. Situation might be way different near TDL.

I really do not see the point of trading Provorov at this time. I think it would really undercut the current mojo that we have. They are playing tough, competitive hockey. Ttrading Provorov at this point would really be pulling the rug out from under them.

I don’t see Utah trading promising young players for a rental

It really only works if they get the acquisition to extend. It looks like a team that is taking big steps so I wouldn't rule out guys extending there.

I really don't see any reason why we should take Macelli, and trade Provorov at all. Finally starting to show his potential, the Werenski, Provorov pair is playing great, guys are adding to each other and we have to trade him?

My thinking was that it gives us someone who fits better long term and helps the short term depth crisis at forward. But the way Provorov is playing, and the way our top D weave with our forwards, Provorov might be more impactful.

If his first name was Luca, I would be all over adding Macelli. We could have

Luca Del Bel Belluz
Luca Marrelli
Luca Pinelli
Adam Fantilli’s brother Luca Fantilli

and then we would have Luca Macelli. But Macelli’s first name is Matias so we don’t want him.

I wonder how long it took all the Italian families in Ontario to realize they were all picking the same distinctive baby name.

They are kind of limited. You can’t name a kid Mario or Luigi anymore. Benito hasn’t been used since the 40s. What’s left? Romeo? Salvatore? Vito? I am hoping for a generation of Italian-Canadian hockey players named Vito.
