Is it me or is our prospect pool pretty shallow outside of the top 5? I guess its natural since we just had Korpi, Andy, Z, Sedlak, etc develop and make the team, but its an area of concern for me (especially center and defense)

We have PLD, Bjork (if he counts), Abramov, Forsberg...Then it falls off. Kolesar could be good.. Milano is polarizing. Peeke I guess. Elvis is ready for AHL duty.

Idk, perhaps we/I am spoiled by our prospect pools by previous years. But I don't love whats on the way after PLD, and even he I am bullish on as far as his impact.

I think the 5-10 is still decent.

PLD
Bjorkstrand
Milano
Korpisalo
Carlsson

Gavrikov
Peeke
Abramov
Kolesar
Forsberg

Merzlikins
Hannikainen, etc...

Ordering not too serious.

Korpisalo is now full-time backup unless the FO makes a signing this offseason or Vegas picks him (no reason they should). No longer a prospect.

Ya'll sleeping on Stenlund?

Agree overall though. Seems like there aren't a lot of top-end prospects...because they all mostly just made the team.

Elvis - I don't believe has an NHL out clause in his Swiss contract, right? Bittner - wtf did he just fall off the map? Collins - is he never going to pan out? Does Kukan become our top AHL/NHL call up next season? Thurkauf signed an ELC, right?

Who are the prospects we have to decide on this summer? Just Sam Ruopp? I think everyone else has either signed or is in Europe if I'm not mistaken.

Just a couple weeks ago the Hockey News produced their "Future Watch" edition. It annually grades the prospects of the existing 30 NHL clubs. They also rank the Top 100 prospects outside the NHL.

Columbus was ranked at 13th with a B grade. Last year Columbus was 3rd with an A- grade. This would validate your harvesting of talent theory. I would look at a rank of 13th and say that the CBJ have average depth beyond the Top 5 when compared to the average NHL team. Your feeling of being weak after the Top 5 may or may not hold water.

If you think about 30 teams in the league and 100 players, each team should have 3 or 4. The most was 5 prospects in the top 100 (Anaheim, Carolina, Minnesota), the least was 1 prospect (Chicago, Rangers).

Columbus had 4 players ranked in the Top 100.

DuBois - #10
Bjorkstrand - #53
Abramov - #74
Carlsson - #82

Just as a point of interest, the following table lists the Top 10 CBJ prospects by Future Watch and their ranking as done by the posters here on HF Boards late last summer

2017 Future Watch Rank | Player | HF Boards Rank-2016
#1|DuBois|#2 (behind Werenski)
#2|Bjorkstrand|#3
#3|Abramov|#9
#4|Carlsson|#7
#5|Milano|#5
#6|Peeke|#18
#7|Forsberg|#8
#8|Bittner|#10
#9|Heatherington|#17
#10|Thurkauf|Not ranked

THN has a good list through 7. I don't know what they expect to happen with Bittner though. Or Heatherington. Gavrikov should be on there. I'm surprised Kolesar isn't, but THN covers juniors well so maybe they have good reasons there. If they don't include a CHL player it won't be because of ignorance.

Well, your going to take a hit to your prospect pool after you go on to 6-10 range and graduate 5 players.. But, I think some of our prospects are a bit hard to read on how they are progressing as they are currently in Europe.. Carlsson, Stenlund, Gavrikov.

Just seen Stenlund had signed a 1 year deal with his SHL team. Gavrikov has reportedly received an offer. Not sure what to think of Stenlund.. He started to score some goals, then dried up when sent back to the 4th line. Carlsson- He won't be a stat stuffer for the SHL, but he did play in the WJC, regular SHL minutes. Does he come to Lake Erie next year or stay in Sweden?

Juniors- I actually think we have some decent junior prospects in the CHL.. Then again, probably very few people of us can actually watch CHL hockey to judge. Stat wise we have some players that are performing well. Kolesar, Thurkauf, Sherwood were all above a PPG this year in the CHL in their 19 year old season. We all know Abramov's season. Kolesar, Thurkauf, Sherwood can all play for Cleveland next year if the Jacket's so desire, so that would provide more info to what we truly have..

To clarify- It has been 2 years since the 2015 NHL draft where we had a ton of picks.. Do we have to make a decision on signing- Stenlund, Veino, Ruopp, Gavrikov to contracts this offseason??

Gavrikov has an offer to consider after the playoffs.

I believe Stenlund and Veino are exempt from the two-year rule - "A non-North American player can not be signed unless they are drafted first." Similar to how we hold the rights to Merzlikins. So by my amateur count, a decision must be made on Ruopp and that's it.

Sherwood has probably played his way up the rankings. Gotta be near Kolesar now.

I dont get some of the prospect ranking really hating on Milano, seems premature to me. Sure hes not a PPG in the AHL or something but hes playing on a team that doesnt really score much and leading it in points. Id like to see more goals from him but personally still have hope for him. this is not

Kukan with 3 assists tonight in Monsters 3-2 OT win. I think they were all primary and I think this moves the Monsters into a playoff spot.

Not sure how many games they have left but like you were saying earlier hopefully Carlsson comes over. Maybe a playoff push and hopefully some playoff games will be some incentive

Yes perhaps Sherwood should be ahead of Kolesar. But you know the guy I wish I remembered is Thurkauf. He should be well ahead of those two.

And I remembered Kukan but everyone says bad things about him this year so I'm just going based on that. He always looked like a good prospect to me but I haven't seen him this year.

Thurkauf is a good option aswell. Kolesar/Sherwood/Thurkauf is a nice group of guys that could be middle 6 players like Josh Anderson if things click or a solid chance atleast one becomes a bottom 6 banger

Flint is down 3-0 in their playoff series, could Kole be a Monster for the end of season run? What about Vitalii (also down 3-0)...can he sign an ATO for the end of year if his CHL season is over?

That is what happens when you have one of the youngest teams in the league. It is tough to be young/deep in the NHL and have a loaded prospect pool.
