We have to send a message to the young players and potential captains of this team that giving up this late in the season won't fly. Peters should tell his team that they're going to rest their best players because they don't want to risk injury going into next season :sarcasm:. I'm not even a proponent of tanking because this was too embarrassing losing to a lotto team and a Torts team nonetheless to justify tanking but replacing Staal, Skinner and Faulk with PDG, Nash and Jordan is absolutely necessary imo.

TBH I have a hard time feeling TOO bad about that loss considering we were sending AHL players over the boards half the game. It really hit me how much we've stripped down the roster and taken the "Everybody Gets A Turn!" approach.

Pathetic effort last night, might be the worst all season at home.
First game this year that we left early.

When the puck went over the glass, I turned to my kids and said - We are going to start the third 5 on 3 maybe we should leave now.

Thankfully the goal at 0.1 seconds sealed the deal -- Bonus that we did not know was that we also spared ourselves listening to more of The Nonbelievers.

As much as I love the hometown feel of a successful independent label like Merge, Mac McCaughan's vocals sucks.

Kudos to Superchunk, though.

Is it my imagination, or does the team seem to lay the biggest eggs of the season in front of Lack. The worst game I saw (live) all season was the Florida game early on in the season and that one was with Lack in goal also.

Not sure if the actual statistics back it up, but there have been a few games like that in front of Lack.

Lack really played the last two goals poorly. Even as badly as we played, you gotta figure that's a 3-1 game by all rights, and a 3-1 game looks very different in the late stages than a 5-1 game.

I agree -- it seems as if he was hung out to dry all night.

Pesce seemed to me to be especially brutal last night, although I am still a big fan of his game, but it seems all of our young D has hit a bit of a wall lately.

I really do not know what he could have done on goal #4.
It was 5 on 3.
I could be wrong though because I was to busy heading down the stairs to see a replay.

He just didn't get his feet under him to make what should have been a simple save. He had a very clear view of the shot, and it wasn't stretching him so far across the net that he really needed to slide over to get it. He just didn't set himself properly, so when he spit the rebound out, he had no way to recover in time.

Columbus had one realistic way to create a goal in that situation and Lack played right into it.

He was off all night. Even the breakaway in the first, he barely reacted to the shot.

And as far as "let down games", the team also always seems to have them after games that they play REALLY well in. So after the Rangers game, this could have been predicted.

This was exactly our experience. Left right after the 2nd period horn.

The drunks behind us did nothing to enhance the atmosphere.

Agreed and one might say, though Wille would disagree, that he was Lackadaisical on that one. :naughty:

To me it was a combination of poor D play and poor play in the net.

Just a lost cause all the way around.

Tweet by Eddie Lack's dad last night

edit: finally embedded this tweet geez

The team defence was crap, but this is a bad move by old man Lack...not quite Miko Grimes bad...but poor form nonetheless. Do you want someone's wife posting a pic of swiss cheese when the goalie has a bad game...I mean, come...on.

Ward got his fair share of getting hung out to dry this season too...if you're ready to move on from him (as some acknowledge), it makes it easier to forget those games.

Lack often looks like he's hung out to dry because he lets out a lot of bad rebounds, which leads to more shots against and a lot of high quality chances against. But the defense can only do so much about that. At the end of the day, Lack has to hold onto more pucks if he's going to be the starter, it's not enough to just make the initial stop.

I'm so sorry. Here, if you have a sloppy joe, and I have a sloppy joe, and I have a straw. There it is, that's a straw, you see? Watch it. Now, my straw reaches acroooooooss the continent and starts to drink your sloppy joe. I...drink...your...sloppy joe!
[sucking sound]
I drink it up!
