Regarding one of the kids on the second line, I didn't think Jenner could cut it on the first line last year. So I'll just go with what the org thinks on this one.

Wennberg and Milano seemed the most impressive to me. Wennberg was making things look effortless. He looked very poised and wasn't just going for the homerun pass or cherry picking, and often was the last line of defense.
Milano was trying to put on a show on offense and often succeeded. Such a high ceiling.

My impressions from this week's camp:

Kerby Rychel has a very nice shot and has a nose for the net.

Marko Dano is bigger than I thought he'd be and is pretty solidly built. He looks like a good, scrappy NHL center in the future.

Sonny Milano has tons of skills, great hands, and is very good at passing.

Then, I see a guy who has the shot of Rychel, the ability of Dano, and the skills of Milano and it turns out to be Wennberg. Wennberg seemed like the varsity QB out there with tons of confidence and the coaches giving him lots of attention. He is still pretty skinny but he carried himself very well.

Finally, I was really impressed with Daniel Zaar. Didn't expect much out of him but he was in my opinion one of the better players in the camp.

Out of defense I really liked Reilly. He was very fluid at skating and moving the puck. He isn't that big compared to Collins, Heatherington, and even Madaisky but he looked good. Otherwise I thought Heatherington looked ok. We're pretty thin at defense though at the moment and none of the drills were really "for" defenders.

I'd like Wennberg in our lineup if for no other reason than his shootout skill. I think our current roster is at best average when it comes to "slick" skill, but that's going to change when some of these kids make the jump.

Easily the best overall group of youngsters in this dev camp ever. Soak it in because you're probably not going to see 4 first round picks all at the same time again for a while.

The future is bright! :yo:

I loved Rychel, Dano, Wennberg, Zaar, Reilly, Heatherington, Quenneville, and Hannikainen. We also may have something in this Bird dude.

With some of you guys liking what you saw out of Hannikainen, you expect Jarmo to sign him to a contract in the next couple of days? He isn't part of the organization and was only here on a invite.

It's an intriguing group, for sure. Makes one wonder whether some of the kids, particularly the non-first-rounders, will be able to play their way on to the roster as guys like Calvert and Atkinson have done. It seems like there are going to be more frogs to leap to get there than there has been in the past. Guys like Zaar and Bjorkstrand, who seem like 'tweeners' have a hard road ahead to make it, even though I love their games.

I have no idea whether Wennberg is going to crack the team this year but I agree he seems like he has the best chance of the group there today. If I had to place $100, I'd wager he plays at least half the season in Springfield.

I was very impressed with Reilly. Milano is fun to watch, although a 3-on-3 shinny game plays to his strengths way more than say someone like Josh Anderson.

Tangent thought: I was going Jackets' draft picks year-by-year so that I could chronologically order the development roster in my mind. It is somewhat surprising (and a little disappointing) to me that the Jackets only have two players left in their system that were CBJ-drafted prior to 2008. Jared Boll (2005) and Will Weber (2007). It just seems weird and random that these two, out of all the high and low draft picks, are the franchise survivors.

In my (very limited) viewing, there was a handful of players that stood out to me, although all I watched was a couple of the tourney games.

The players that impressed me most were Wennberg, Reilly, Rychel, Heatherington, Quinneville(sp?), and Soberg.

Wennberg just looked so skilled, so swift, and definitely NHL ready to me. His one shootout goal where he fake stick handled over the puck was outstanding.

Reilly was extremely quick, looked like he had great vision, and seems like he could be a Jacket sooner rather than later.

Rychel has a great shot, and was always in the right spot, which corresponds with his scouting report. He'll score a lot of crash the net type goals.

Heatherington was big, faster than I expected, and also seemed to have much more skill than I anticipated. I think 3 years down the road, a Reilly-Heatherington pairing would be fantastic.

Quinneville was simply outstanding. No idea why this kid doesn't get more talk, he was flying out there, and scored a lot of goals too. I expect him to turn out as an NHL player in some form.

Soberg seemed bigger than last year, and just as quick. He was also flying, and had a knack for the net. I will be following him very closely in Windsor, his progress is very intriguing.

As for the goalies, Dansk, once again, massively disappointed me. Considering this is the third year in a row I've had these thoughts, I'm starting to think he won't turn out. I thought Korpisalo improved over last year, and I didn't really get to see Forsberg or Elvis.

I strongly feel Mike Reilly will be one of the most talked about NCAA players next season. You CBJ'ers got an absolute stud having him on your team. Ive been extremely high on him since his Junior A days in Penticton and have been following him close for a couple years. He just keeps getting better and better. CANT wait to see what he does next year in College again!!!

Development camp dinner tonight and we were seated with Thomas Larkin and Elvis Merzlikins. Larkin was quick to tell us he is not actually "from" the UK as listed. He has dual citizenship in USA and Italy. Grew up in Northern Italy with Italian mom, American dad. He was born in England, but moved at age 1 1/2. He speaks English, Italian, and French. Elvis speaks Latvian, a little English and... Italian! So, Thomas was Elvis's interpreter via their shared fluency in Italian throughout camp. Not really hockey related, I know, but an interesting tidbit from the dinner today. Elvis is flying to Brazil for World Cup finals, thought that's pretty cool, too.

Nice night, all in all.

Great to meet you Derby...well since I realized I knew you another way, great to see you! hahahaha

Sat with Bird...super smart kid, wants to get into the top 6 this year at Brown, feels humbled by this week, coming in as top kid he knew to being just one of the guys with all the higher skilled guys...lots more but CBJ Prospects is doing a write up on it that I'll share when he's done...

beyond Wennberg, Dano, Rychel, Milano, I was highly impressed with Mike Reilly and Dillon Heathrington...I'm not a fan of what Hartsberg said about MR...but it's done so no real reason to dwell...Dillon showed speed and skill I didn't know he had in him as a big guy.

I'm finding myself really wanting to root for Thomas Larkin to progress...6 yrs at prospects camp, hopefully he and Madaisky continue to grow in Springfield.

Loved the tourney today, the kids were having fun and it showed.

Mad there was no Swedish goalie dance after the game
