You joke but it is built close to a former state prison, it actually sits on its parking lot. Hundreds of prisoners died there. Arena in the upper right corner, footprint of old prison in the middle.
Been tried. Search for "shake the curse".Just throwing this out... but have the Blue Jackets considered an exorcism?
Might take 5 or 6..... hundred..... at the same time.Been tried. Search for "shake the curse".
Last few years TBH.Colombus just got one of the worst off season ever
Last few years TBH.
Strongly agree with this. Evasion is the right coach for this group, and they will need to pull together. Bet this group surprises folks. There is no other way for us but to try and win despite everything
Evason was able to get some solid results with an average roster in Minnesota so we will see what happens
Even though they're a division rival, I do hope Columbus wins the lottery this year
They have a lot of young talent who will just play for themselves and to develop their offensive game. The Devils did that in 2021-22 and were able to take the next step the next year. But many other young players do develop bad habits. We'll see - but at least there is a ton of young forward talent who should score some points. As for people like Gudbranson, Provorov, and Severson....I have no idea. Though I guess Provorov is an upcoming UFA.
I wonder if Monahan asks for a trade at some point?
That’s really all you can hope for. You'd need to have an amazingly strong mind to find any motivation in that organization this season. I hope the negativity doesn't snowball into a toxic cesspool locker room for the long term.
Bad take, Columbus is one of the best/most loyal fanbases in the leagueHonestly it could be a death kneel for that franchise. They have been so bad for so long, if the team just gives up and they need to rebuild the culture AGAIN man.
They need a big season or some form of hope
Also what is this "so bad for sooooo long" thing? They literally bounced Toronto from the Bubble playoffs in 2020, their fourth year in a row of making the playoffs, and they had the exact same record as Toronto that year. Leafs fans of course think that was a David and Goliath matchup like Jackets/Lightning the year before... which Columbus also won. Jarmo only admitted to being in a rebuild in 2021 and then the team bounced back up a little in 2022 (the 6OA pick of Jiricek was Chicago's pick from the Jones trade, not their own pick). There are teams that started their rebuilds five, six, ten years before that who still haven't reached the playoffs but we want to pretend Columbus is uniquely terrible for over a decade?Bad take, Columbus is one of the best/most loyal fanbases in the league

Yeah but this one is historically terrible, and the worst part is: none of it ain't even because of the Blue Jackets themselves, it was out of their control
I’d say Arizona had a worse offseason than Columbus.
We got 82 games to go, it's just getting started. Every team in the league now gets to come into Nationwide Arena and show CBJ's hopes and dreams (rookies) how to play real hockey. I'm sure they will learn a lot, doubt it will be helpful.Hopefully Columbus fans this is the end of the bad news for you guys.

Don't feel bad for CBJ fans though, the only thing new is the excuse. I didn't mind when other teams fans hating CBJ and their team winning, but these mercy losses are going to get old quick.
Pre Day 1 Jackets fan here. I went to the first game ever. Jackets went up 3-0 and lost 5-3. Here we are 25 years later and things just keep getting worse. This is by no means a complete list of bad things that have happened to the Jackets and a couple of my own. I know that this list is incomplete.
1. Franchise opener. I was at the game.
2. Brittanie Cecil dies as a result of a puck hitting her in the head. I was there. I can still see her walking up the steps with a towel on her head. She was 13 years old.
3. The Jeff Carter incident.
4. Captain Rick Nash asked to be traded.
5. Sydor only playing 49 games on Columbus before asking to be traded.
6. So many blown draft picks that I can't list them all.
7. Captain Adam Foote asking for a trade and really screwing the Jackets.
8. For me personally, being taunted by drunk Pens and Wings fans while being outnumbered in my own arena.
9. Boomer
10. The Horton contract fiasco.
11. The Pens fan riding on the Zamboni. Jackets fans will remember.
12. Bob, Panarin, Duchene leaving.
13. The never ending narrative that nobody wants to play in Columbus.
14. The losing.
15. Kivlenieks death
16. Babcock
17. Johnny's death
You may notice that Jenner being injured and out for an extended period this year did not make my list. That is not even on the radar vs the events listed above.
Of those events none are as bad as Brittanie Cecil, Kivlenieks and Johnny. All of those still make my heart ache.
If you ever met a Jackets fan, just know that they are a true fan because there has never been any fairweather to have fairweather fans. And yes I will be watching tonight.
Boomer was a bit of tongue in cheek. That era was bad.Personally I've enjoyed games in even the worst seasons. When the team plays with heart there's a lot to like. And the Jackets still manage sellouts despite being in a rebuild and despite this long list of bad things. I don't think the bad things have to be in the front of our minds. They aren't close in mind for me, not until Gaudreau and this Fall, and I'm sure we'll get through this.
That and Boomer was an incredible mascot, we should have kept him and enjoyed all the jokes. Putting him in the closet was a self-own.
