I really wonder if most of you have even ever seen Tynan play? He led a pretty good college team in points 3 out of his 4 years and then again led our AHL affiliate as a rookie. You cant hold it against him because statistically he never quite matched an exceptional rookie year in college. Just because he didn't go on to lead the country in points doesn't mean his progression or anything about him has stalled. Its also interesting to note that going by the numbers, his worst statistical season(12/13-junior yr) was his teams best statistical season. Another interesting thing about that year is his +/- number in relation to his teammates. While still having a very respectable 28 pts in 41 games he was 4th on the team. The top 3 point getters (Lee, Rust, Costello) were +18,+18, +25. Numbers 4-5 on the point list were Tynan with a -1 and Lucia(23pts in 32 games) with the "highest" negative on the team at -4. Since only 5 regular players were minuses that year for ND what can be taken from the fact that Tynan and Lucia were negative players while still putting up decent offensive numbers? That they had a "bad" year? No, Its that's they(Tynan especially as a C) were asked to play a role that matched them up against the best offensive players of other teams. He's not just some small offensive playmaker. Derek Mackenzie isn't a big guy. Like him or a Calvert or Atkinson, a smart, quick, smaller guy can use his size to his advantage. He really does play(style wise) like a hybrid of the 2 with a dash of Dubi-like defensive awareness.
The NCAA is a tougher league than the Swedish Elite League. Tynan is good enough defensively and offensively to be used as a future "3rd hybrid line" winger or center. Just as good as a chance as Karlsson, Stenlund, Anderson, etc. He also has just as good of a chance to one day be a 2nd liner or be just as valuable as a 4th liner. While a bit older he's still proven quite a bit more than any of them at this point also.
I also wish I knew how much you guys have seen of Carlsson/Paliotta and Stenlund to be so confident in where they are ranked.
