One of the most puzzlingly overrated players on this website.

Dime a dozen player everyone already has in their org
Really? He's a decently average no.4 defenseman I don't think anybody is overhyping him. It's just baffling to those that watch our team that he's gone instead of Schenn, Lauzon or Carrier and that we're tossing him for free.

No. Wtf. How could both Montreal and San Jose pass?
Grier has brought in so many new players since the end of last season that adding more could have a negative impact on our prospects. Tougher to stay focused when it is perceived the GM is filling the slot/s you are fighting for with veteran players

I'm not sure our existing players help our prospects either. :dunno:

Habs fans really gonna be after Jiricek now :naughty:
He's not a Jiricek replacement, so the only likely outcome is even more fan disappointment. :)

If it was me doing the lineups, I'd slot him next to Werenski and hope/presume the magic can be rediscovered from when he was a wonderful stay-at-home guy alongside Josi. The risk, of course, is that that was like three years ago. But given how much cap space we have, the term on his contract, and how big the potential payoff is, it's so incredibly worth trying.

Honestly a good pick up for Columbus.
Yup. 2.5 on an expiring contract. 26 and proven nhl top four, puck moving right shot D. If he’s with a stout defensively minded partner, he should do well. Could see an extension with CBJ too. Lind of surprised some teams had a chance to claim him but didn’t. The Habs?

Technically he's the defensive partner, rather than the PMD. At least, that's how he's operated in the past when he was super-effective. It's easy to overlook it because he's not big or physical like prototypical shutdown blueliners, but he was getting the results.

I see no reason to take Provorov off the 1st pair. If the goal is to trade him, keep him there so his value in a good place. Fabbro can play down the depth chart and prove he deserves a look with time

Crazy that he got past SJ. Werenski-Severson/Provorov-Fabbro is a pretty well balanced top 4.

Surprised Buffalo wouldn't throw a mid pick Nashville's way given that he'd be a perfect partner for Owen Power. Or Utah when they lost both Marino and Durzi and are absolutely dying for a Fabbro type defenseman. Hell I would take him on the Caps and we don't even need him. Maybe Trotz waived him quietly hoping to sneak him through like Poile tried with Tolvanen? Either way, another mark in the extremely sus Barry Trotz as GM decision column
