Pittsburgh
The issue is the same as last deadline and offseason.

If Crosby, Malkin and Letang are not being moved the Pens aren't having a fire sale, no matter how much it makes sense to us for them to do so.

Jake was moved, true. But only because he was a pending UFA and was unlikely to come back to this farewell tour.

So, although I would be thrilled to be wrong about this too, nothing in how the Pens have handled this situation until now says that I am.

Here's what you may not be considering. This team isn't very good, ok? All they have to do is get rid of Raks, a goalie and Petts. That should get us a very solid return.

This line up can fail as is. A few injuries won't hurt. My point is, if they ice this collection of players they can't help but fail.

They had Jake two years ago, they failed. Sid and Geno were two years younger thEn and played every game. THIS team isn't better than that team. Their goaltending has been worse this year. If they just play as is the desired result will happen.

I do expect however some decent pieces moved out. The most important thing is teams like EDM and TB teach them THE WAY! BREAK THEM, we're so close to them losing all of their confidence, just a little further and Dubas can sell off. Probably will regardless.

Two years ago they had 91 points, last year 88, Pretty confident it will be between 74 and 82 this season. We're trending downward. And we will KEEP our picks. Probably add to that.

It begs the question.

When do you see Crosby and Malkin hanging them up?

And do you see either asking for and/or accepting a trade until then?

That is the mediocrity hell window.
Malkin should retire after this season. His legs are gone and it’s affecting the rest of his game.

Sid still looks like he can play out his contract, and he will play here for the rest of his career.

It’s new and weird to me that people are thinking that two hall of fame players at the end of their careers would want to play anywhere other than the team they have spent two decades playing for and winning.
