What about Pettersson for K. Johnson?
I love Pettersson's game but Johnson has a similar amount of points to him in fewer games while carrying a cap hit of $1.8M for 3 years (compared to $11.6M for 8 years). He's also young with lots of untapped potential.

i watched a bunch of demko im not worried about his play as of right now. hes has all the talent in the world to be a great goalie and we have seen it in the past!

kent has been just as productive this year (and hasn't had good linemates) while making $10m less this year and the next two years after this. doesn't make sense for columbus to give him up.

realistically columbus would be building a package around sillinger + futures, could also include chinakhov or provorov or (if vancouver wants him) severson. not sure that fits their present needs as much as some other packages but it doesn't make sense for columbus to give up better pieces (fantilli, kj, marchenko, voronkov, mateychuk).

columbus is also positioned to take on the entirety of pettersson's deal without having to send back any money. if vancouver doesn't get a pettersson offer that's perfectly aligned to what they want, getting a boatload of assets from columbus and getting $11m+ off their books could be prudent, as the asset capital + cap flexibility can be deployed in other ways to get what they wanted.

Goalies are never worth much. And Demko has an injury history . He went from playing like a Vezina goalie to a bad goalie since his injury. Not sure he will return very much if traded today.
Take out Sillinger and it’s pretty on par with other goalie trades

Edit: Fat thumbs

with rumors of Demko wanting out thought this would be a nice trade

Thatcher Demko ( 5m ) For Cole Sillinger ( 2.25m) Elvis Merzlikins ( 5.4m ) Jordan Dumais ( Grade b prosect ) 2nd round pick

Markstorm and Ullmark didn't really get much of a haul so i figured this could work ?
Unfortunately, the grass isn't actually any greener past that fence.

He's looked off no doubt but Totally to be expected with the long layoff and coming back when everyone's basically at the peak of their performance.

I think teams would gladly take him at his full value given how high and recent that ceiling is.

This latest injury like most of his injuries isn't related to another and I chop up prior two seasons to just bad luck, not injury prone but that's just my take.

As a fan of his and the nucks the thought of trading him was inconceivable even when Lankinen was winning and playing well but this team needs to add a top six playmaking forward and with Lankinen clearly cabable of being the guy I'd rather trade from a position of strength than move JT or EP.

On Defense we have EP, Willander and can still add another via a trade using picks, prospects etc.

Theres a few teams CBJ included that by adding Demko could really be huge for them.

Canes, Jackets, wings, hell even the pens fit the bill and I think the Jackets and Canes especially make sense and have some interesting wingers that would be a good fit.

Demko is spoiled goods at this point.

When you hear "He'll have to learn how to play with this lower body injury, it cannot be fixed" regarding a goalie, you run the other way. The only exception is if you're signing him to a ~$1M contact as a backup.

What a difference a year makes. At this time last year, this would have been comically a bad. A 28 year old Vezina finalist making 5 million per year for 2 more seasons was an extremely valuable asset. Merzlikins is actually signed for *more* money, which is crazy, and goes to show you the extra value Demko provided over basically anyone who has been a warm body in an NHL net.

Now, he's definitely lost confidence after what seems to be a permanent injury. He's an extremely dedicated, hard working goalie who isn't a headcase like a lot of them, so maybe he makes adjustments that allow him to flourish but I'm not counting on it. Sad for what was a promising career that was really just kicking in last year. I doubt there is going to be many offers like the OP on the table.

His possible desire to be elsewhere is irrelevant. The reality is that this isn't a player who is going to elicit offers right now, not beyond the casual conversations that GMs are always having to keep the lines open.
  • Vancouver has to think of him as the Vezina-caliber guy he was before his major injury.
  • Everyone else has to weigh his injuries and the uncertainty of what he may be today.
Until more time passes, and he either shows he can reach that level again, or his post-injury play settles at a decidedly lower tier, his value is in flux. Right now, Vancouver couldn't agree with opposing teams as to his worth.

I'm extremely concerned with Demko long term. He already has injury history and major ones to boot. He's in a much narrower stance, seemingly to protect his knee and has been god awful. If he wasn't fully healthy why'd they rush him back? Lank was doing a good job. If he is healthy and actually thinks he can play in a different stance, then that is not a great outlook.
