He is signed to a one-way deal. Yikes!!! Welcome to Nationwide Press Box.

“One-way” just means he gets paid the same playing in the NHL or the AHL.

That said, I could see him scratched in more NHL games than he plays in the AHL.

It seems like a round or so too high of a pick, but we didn’t have a 5th rounder and I don’t see a big issue in trading our second 4th rounder this year for someone that they feel can fill an immediate need on a league minimum deal. I’m sure Kuraly and Peeke are pleased that they are no longer taking on the best of the other teams now. It helps acquiring someone that is immediately the best fighter on the team, the pick is really not a huge loss, and he’s on a cheap, one year-RFA contract that is ideal with Voronkov likely displacing his roster spot the next season.

Like the priority of adding toughness but it’s a real head scratcher sending a 4th for this particular player.

Also adds yet another body to our logjam at wing. Something will have to give there soon.

Picks aren’t going to be an issue we have a glut of forwards , some of which are probably moved for picks / players . Personally I’m ok with this trade , we need some size and toughness on this team , fighting wise as well as checking and playing the physical game

Stupid trade. It’s unlikely, but possible, the fourth rounder turns into a productive NHL player. Unlike Olivier.

Guess Jarmo felt intimidated by the elite Minnesota Wild, who we play twice a year and have won a grand total of… 0 playoff series in the past 7 years.
You were surely here when many in this board lost their collective shit after those games right?

I’ve never seen a fanbase so wrapped up in complaining about losing irrelevant picks.

I’m going to go out on a limb and say that Oliver plays more nhl games than whoever Nashville picks with this fourth round pick.

The 4th round pick CBJ traded (#122) has amounted to absolute f*** all in the last decade. Only 1 player from that crop ever made it to the NHL (Hudon) and he's basically an AHL lifer at this point.

Some of you need to get real. Olivier is no superstar but is one of the toughest players in the game today, an absolute animal. Jarmo identified a weakness and dealt a nothing pick, plus you have another 4th rounder anyway. Just stop with the overpayment nonsense.

Have you visited any other teams page? Plus I like Jarmo and the scouting staff with those mid picks. Richard, Pyythia, Bemstrom, Voronkov are all recent 4 round picks by the team. Likely not all hits but I like what the staff does there.

Ben Chiarot and Jaccob Slavin both went at #120.

I just don't get how we fit all the forwards

Has to be an F for D trade coming.

F's: Laine (if re-signed), Jenner, Voracek, Nyquist, Roslovic, Sillinger, Bjorkstrand, Chinakhov, Johnson, Marchenko, Texier, Kuraly, Robinson, Danforth, Olivier, Gaunce, Bemstrom (if re-signed), Luoto, Foudy

That's like 14-15 guys who are either on your big club or on one way contracts (getting NHL money in Cleveland). It's too many for this cheap ownership.

Unless they're planning on sending down Chinakhov, Johnson, and Marchenko to Cleveland and playing a bottom six of Texier-Roslovic-Danforth and Robinson-Kuraly-Olivier.

There is roughly an 11% chance a 4th round pick plays 100 or more games in the NHL. Yes, there are success stories and I'm a guy that loves draft picks. However, the Monsters will be very young and there is little to no thump to protect the young players. At the NHL and AHL level. He's a call up that can be used as needed but is not useless. Ultimately this satisfies a need at a low cost. His 1 way deal has no impact on the cap and doesn't force him to the NHL. I think we're over rating the need for that 4th. Moving Bemmstrom for a 3rd increases the odds of landing an NHL player and lengthens the time horizon while thinning the NHL ranks. Just an example. There is sometimes more value to adding a depth piece like this than using the pick. Time will tell but I have no issue with this one.

You don't burn a 4th round pick on a guy to play in the AHL. Judging by Jarmo's comments to Portzline he will be on the NHL squad. He may be a healthy scratch at times but he'll be rostered.

Has to be right?

But then we remember we're CBJ fans and we don't understand things like hope

Like others I think it was a slight overpay.
But this team needed toughness in a bad way.

I'm not sold he will play every night but against physical teams he is needed.

In the fourth round you are hoping to find someone to make the NHL

I'm actually looking for the next Savard, next Big Josh.

I'm actually excited for Voronkov and Guillaume Richard at this point, I think those can be serious contributors, potentially much more important than Olivier. I want more of them and I'd be happy with two or even three 4th rounders, I don't think having two means that one of them is a spare that you don't need.

Well apparently, and at the risk of stating the obvious... with the team he has now, Jarmo thinks this dude > that 4th, right?

Yeah I’d love to find the next Anderson or Savard too. And those guys you mentioned might be big contributors down the road.

And they also might not be. And actually, they probably won’t be if you look at the odds. Including the fact people say this draft isn’t very good.

Meanwhile, I am pretty positive Olivier will have a decent role this year on the team. So again, mountains and molehills.

That’s not to say you just give away mid round picks for free like candy, but throwing some to improve your team in areas you need to every once in a while isn’t this awful overpayment either, like some are arguing.

I’m willing to bet at this time 3 years from now we won’t even remember this trade happened.
