Player Discussion Cayden Primeau Part II

I

lt is almost always mental with goaltenders that are his age.

I would absolutely call him up and send Dobes down. Dobes still has many technical issues and teams are starting to exploit him. Primeau is far more technically sound and clearly has regained his confidence.
Ideally you want Dobes in net when Laval starts their playoffs. I doubt Primeau gets another chance however, that ship has sailed.

Now we know why Marty didn't want to play Dobes. Send Dobes down to Laval, where he'll see lots of rubber. Get his form back like Primeau did. Call up Primeau, hope for hot streak out of him.

Primeau 's play in Laval since being sent down has been very good. I think he's earned himself another chance.

People who are giving up on Primeau just don't get it. This is not an atypical development curve for a good NHL goaltender and he very well could be an NHL stud just as easily as he might never find the consistency that he has been searching for.

Letting Primeau walk after all of the development time only to have him blossom elsewhere is a very real possibility and I think we need to try and keep him even if that means Dobes starting in Laval next season. Of course this is all contingent on Primeau signing a short/cheap deal as he certainly will have garnered NHL wide interest again.

I agree; look no further than Montembeault and Lindgren.

If they do want to give him another look next season in the NHL after his very strong AHL play, the leash needs to be very very short this time.

Don’t we want Fowler playing the most games in the AHL next season?
Dobes has done enough to warrant his shot again as an NHL back up imo, while Primeau has consistently blown it. Can’t send Dobes down because Primeau finally found his game down there, then put Fowler ahead of Dobes down there too. I guess it’s a good problem to have, but I don’t know what the answer is.

If Primeau gets one final look with the big club next season, as soon as he has 2 shakey games that cost us points.. just take the loss and cut ties. Clock has nearly ran out with us. Can’t hang onto all the goalies because one of them might be better than the other in the future. Dobes has been better as Monty’s back up now.
Dobes has stole the Habs big games. Primeau was costing the Habs games.

I think that Dobes has the backup position until he loses it.

Primeau gets another chance if there's an injury or someone wants a goalie in a trade.

In the meantime he can play 35 games in the AHL, not the worst situation.

Primeau doesn't have much choice as he'll still be RFA. If Kent wants him back, he'll be back.

Then has you have alluded to, there's the waiver issue.

Fight it out at camp, loser goes to the AHL.
