Speculation: Cayden Primeau on waivers

I think in the Columbus game they mentioned that they were basically calling up their AHL goalie anytime they wanted the starter to rest. We might do something similar where we don't put Primeau on waivers, but whenever we want plan to play the backup we just call up Dobes, then after the game send him back down.

It's basically a way of having the AHLer be the teams backup without having him not play for long stretches. It really sucks for the NHL backup who basically is getting skipped over so probably not a long term option.

If this is the plan I'm ok with it. Give Dobes a few games to see where he's at and what he needs to keep working on (positioning).

Then send him back to the A and get a backup on expiring contract. If they still need more time to work a trade, give a couple games to Hughes and see how he does !

Primeau seems like a really good human being, but he ain't ready for the show.

Take over a net somewhere, own that net, be the net.

Then come back to the top of the mountain...

I too figure someone with more experience may be targeted by Hughes to be Monty's back up.

But then again, Primeau is getting waived and given how desperate some teams are for goaltending, he might just be picked up.

Otherwise, Primeau can stay in Laval and build his confidence where while Dobes has a unique opportunity to show what he's got at the NHL level.

Its not a question of confidence, but of technique. Primeau plays the entire game on his knees. Once down, he has no mobility in the net. His technique may have some success in the AHL, but against NHL competition, it just doesn't cut it.

what you're describing is also a product of low confidence. his technique is pretty good, you don't get to that level without good technique. when he's not in his zone mentally he falls back on bad habits like dropping to his knees too early. he also gives up on plays, loses his ability to track rebounds, and to fight for position.

With 4 NHL games to his resumé it is safe to say it is not known if he would be a decent NHL back up.

Not surprised to see this. Hopefully he can pull a Lindgren and find himself with another organization.

While Hughes was placing Primeau on waivers he should've also shown some mercy to Pezz and put him on waivers as well, if MSL refuses to play him. Even if he didn't get claimed at least he would have the option of being sent to Laval to possibly get back to playing instead of sitting on his ass for the last 2 months.

Still have to figure something out long term, Dobes can't sit as a back-up too often. We also can't be one injury away from Hughes and two ECHLers playing for Laval.

I was never really impressed by Primeau, save for a few games. I am no goalie expert, but his glove hand and rebound control were not NHL caliber. He would make a good save only to be beaten on beer league level shots. He was frustrating to watch.
