Prospect Info: Cayden Lindstrom

I popped into Ice Haus Saturday and Lindstrom was out there skating by himself. Hoping he continues to recover.

How'd he look?

I feel bad prying into something the club is trying to keep private, but I must admit I'm curious if he's skating hard yet.

When I have seen injured guys skate at the Ice Haus (or former players skate while coaching at rinks around Columbus) I am always amazed at how well they skate and how fast they are. Like beaten down former NHLers or current NHLers coming back from ankle injuries are faster than top high school players in the area.

The real question is that happens over the next few days, do they continue to work it and ramp up? Or do they dial it back and keep him off the ice for awhile? Pretty telling either way imo

Honestly I think we learn nothing significant about Lindstrom's status until we get closer to next year's training camp. I fully expect all we hear from now through the end of this season and into the summer is "he's skating on his own with coaches". The only other possible thing we hear is whether he and organization decide he goes back to Medicine Hat next year or goes the NCAA route.

The NCAA route seems a no-brainer at the moment playing a lighter schedule (albeit against more physically mature players) and getting more time in the weight room.

And for those thinking it's anywhere other than OSU this also makes no sense. Unless there is a riff between the organization and Lindstrom he is going to want to be as close to the CBJ staff and resources as possible. Even his UM alum teammates (Mo, KJ, Z, etc) will recognize playing college hockey in Columbus is way better for him than being anywhere else (and I am not an OSU fanboy, I am a realist).

I bet if he's healthy and ramping up his workouts we'll get updates about that and probably some training session videos.

And as far as anywhere but OSU, I can't say I agree. CBJ FO knows the UM staff and program just as good if not better than the OSU staff at this point. I think it's definitely a big ten program that he ends up going to and I would think OSU and UM have pretty similar odds. They both have not only good hockey programs but good medical/strength training programs as well. The difference between OSU and UM is not drastic enough to make a difference, he's still only a 30-60 minutes away if he's at UM...that's a quick plane ride for the FO staff to see him if they want

  • The latest on Cayden Lindstrom. On Wednesday morning, he skated at the Ice Haus under the watchful eye of multiple skills coaches. From the looks of it, it was an intense skate. It’s encouraging to see him put the work in since his surgery. There is still no indication of what comes next for him. The big, lingering question will be where does play hockey next season?

I'm with most that I'd like to see him play NCAA hockey next year, but I wonder if more games in the CHL would get the skillset back up to speed? Likely better training programs in college and I wonder if CBJ and OSU can work out a NIL deal to have him "advertise" for the team. The Panthers did that with a college football player (where I got the idea :)).

Getting his skills etc up to speed means nothing if injuries happen. Clearly the goal is to continue to build strength and less fatigue on his body until everyone is comfortable he's in the best place possible

Wow, not sure any of us saw that coming. He and Melvin Strahl can bunk together :) Double the reasons to follow MSU next season.
I mean they were ranked #1 this season so, it makes sense. But I'm excited, he's close enough they can keep an eye on him but he'll get plenty of time in the weight room. I imagine he'll be the best player on the team?

Did a quick look at the roster and didn't see anyone noticeable, but then again I'm not exactly well versed on prospects these days.

I am assuming Howard and Stramel finally turn pro rather than returning for the senior years. Both were first rounders that developed slowly. Strbak is a highly regarded prospect as a d-man and don't know if goalie Trey Augustine is will come back for a third year (probably not). I saw Ryker Lee is an incoming freshman this year and just saw him on Wheeler's prospect board (has 28 Gs and 61 Pts in 51 USHL games this year). Wheels likes him a lot as a high second round pick, average sized forward with incredible offensive skill but needs to find a mother gear.

Regardless, certainly nobody coming in with Lindstrom's pedigree/excitement level attached. And of course who knows what the transfer portal could bring.

Very true, I didn't even think about the portal. Might draw a kid or two with their success last year and the opportunity to play with Lindstrom

This aged well.
