The Suzuki Cap is in effect!

Hughes controlling costs within the “no superstar” framework. PLD take notice. ;)

Dubois may come in at $8.5M ish for a 8 year term. Mostly UFA years. They other angle they can take is offering NMC and over 50% paid as signing bonus structure and that might end up being $8M AAV. Dubois is very much welcomed but we are not desperate.

Main point is there though. We are not in business to overpay and we are trying to build a winning culture. Suzuki's contract is one Bergevin signed. Another gift in the last few years along with Xhekaj.

Great news for the team and fans alike

Suzy is our best player and to get our top goal scorer to admit that and take less than the best player sets a great precedent moving forward. Very Bruin like, very Lightning like and if we can replicate their success, we're set up real nice. Great start

Extremely happy with this deal! Said before I’d pay a bit more to get him on a long term. Expires when he’s at the age most offensive guys decline. Under $8 million is a bonus.

Yup! Under $8M AAV is ideal and we got him till age 29/30 now. Basically, this core is building up to be contenders while Suzuki and Caufield get in their age 25-30 years. We got a few years yet to add more pieces and develop more.

Amazing deal! Wasn't even worried!

If Caufield keeps trending upward like he was been these last 2 years, it will be an absolute steal of a deal.

Shoutout to Tony Marinaro! Gotta give him his due when he gets it right.

I'm surprised Hughes managed to get a 8 year deal. It's going to be a steal in 2 years with the cap increase.

Why are you surprised? J Hughes got 8x $8M. Caufield is good but he's not better than J Hughes and his value is very similar to Suzuki. I think a part of us was too worried he was asking for $8.5M or $9M.

If we can figure out what’s going on with the defence and find a goalie that’s the right fit, we are primed to compete a few years from now. The window HuGo is going for is starting to become much more clear. Anyone getting impatient and trying to speed this up need to settle down for just a little while longer.

OMG yes!!!!! @Habs Halifax where you at brother! This is what we have been pushing for forever!

Great f***ing deal!

Let's get PLD now!

Work has me consumed! I've been paying attention though.

Glad to see this deal get done! Lets now rip off the Jets to get Dubois around $8M too and draft our next hit.

Only thing that worries me now is what Dach asks for after 3 more seasons.

The rumors were that Caufield wanted a shorter term contracts to "prove himself" and get a bigger paycheck and his agent (Brisson) is known to aim for those.

It was just a typical negotiation and I think we got too worried. A bridge deal would have been a mistake like it was with Subban. From what I see, this was just a typical back and forth dialog and that's basically what Gorton and Hughes said all along. Lets trust our management more than the media.
