Got to watch the game late last night, but the effort was great, you put that kind of effort on against Buffalo and Montreal it's a different story those games. You can't just give effort when a top team is on the other side, you got to show up when there is a weaker team as well.

The only other comment I have is man this team absolutely sucks at shooting the puck. We create far too many chances to be doinking posts, hitting bodies and shooting into the logo. Somehow as a team they have to better when they get looks. If thats putting their heads down and getting more shooting practice, fine, but they have to be better.

You can't let teams off the hook by missing your looks. This shouldn't have been this close of a game. But we have no finish right now.

Without Nuke and Landy, they struggle in two important areas: Creating traffic in front of the net, and deflecting pucks on net. I swear every other team makes it look easy, but if I had to take a drink every time an Avs announcer said "deflected wide!" I'd be in the emergency room every gameday. I kinda blame the coaches there--I don't believe they work on it in practice, and I recall Landeskog actually took the time himself to learn how to deflect shots.

But yes, overall their shooting is much worse than it usually is, ESPECIALLY in high danger areas. It's putrid in that category. I don't know what that is, whether it's bad luck or guys just trying way too hard to pick corners, but it's terrible.

I also think the mere presence of Parker Kelly hurts them in that area. Again, I actually like the player, but he is quite possibly the most inept shooter I've ever seen take NHL ice.

We have Parsy who is better at C than W and we have Colton who is better at W than C. Once Nuke is back, and hopefully nobody else gets hurt, it should be an easy decision for Bednar.

We pay a guy 4M a year to fill that 3C spot.

Colton scored a handful of goals at wing months ago and now everyone wants him on the wing for the rest of his contract?

No.
Why not if he plays better at that position and we have somebody else that could play that position better? You should not decide where to play somebody just because of his cap.

In our situation yes you absolutely should. Colton isn't good enough to be a top 6 wing and is paid too much to be a 3rd line wing.

He needs to be good at center or to get traded.

And since he now has a NMC, center it is.

And before that he was struggling mightily at C, even last year his game pretty much fell apart the moment LOC went on the shelf. He's simply not good enough defensively to take that role. That's one thing Kelly has over him.

FTR I don't think anyone wants him on the wing for the rest of his contract. In fact, I'd be shocked if he made it to the end of his contract in Colorado. It just seems inevitable he will be a salary cap casualty. He most assuredly SHOULD be one of the first guys you trade in that event.

I am only talking about this season because I think he will be traded this summer.

But tell me....what is the difference cap-wise with a 3rd line of?

Colton won't be here in September

Once his NTC turns into the M-NTC he's as good as gone. Parsnip is here as an early trial to see if they can use him as the 3C going forward

Jbara broke my NHL TV stream apparently, it froze just before 2-1 and then the audio was a good minute or so behind the picture, so I watched the last ten minutes on the Panthers feed. None of you are allowed to complain about Altitude again. The production value of a guy with 3 youtube subscribers doing live commentary of a game he's watching. Terrible.

Lol we'd all in the ER if we drank every time a shot a was blocked or was simply missed. It's like everyone developed into prime EJ and can only shoot pucks into shin pads.

All kidding aside, they have to be worst shooting team in the league, like do they know you actually have to put it on net for it to have a chance to go in? Sure doesn't feel like it.

Nate probably wont win the Hart anyway, even if he wins the Art Ross. They’ll probably give to Kaprizov and it will be well deserved, and it will be another case of one guy already has one, the other one doesn’t, let’s give it to the one who doesn’t

They're not the worst, they're the seventh-worst. Behind them are Edmonton, Anaheim, Chicago, Ottawa, Calgary, and Nashville, in that order.

But that's still quite horrid. I know the difference in percentage from best to worst is not vast, but it's obviously noticeable. It's amazing they even stayed in the mix while their goalies were letting everything in at the other end of the ice.

If anyone is curious, the best shooting team is Washington...and crazy enough, Buffalo is FOURTH. That's how God-awful their defense and goaltending has been.

This team needs health above all else and probably 2-3 more pieces and they become a legit Cup threat.
We probably need a 3C unless Parssinen maybe turns into a solid 3C for us. We also need Mitts to start producing at 2C again like he was earlier in the season. Then we need a solid 3rd pair d-man. So you’re right. We will need at least 2 more pieces if not 3

The bolded is why I would like Parsy to be tried right away at 3C. We need to know sooner than later if he can take on that spot. And he needs to be given some time at it as well. Not just a game or two. I believe he can do it. That would allow us to keep Colton at W where he is much better because he can play his game more effectively at that position. If Parsy doesn't cut it at 3C after 10-15 games at that position the Avs will have time to find a good option hopefully before the TDL to give more time to the new guy to learn the system.

Well, let's not throw Parsnips in there right away, dude was on the shelf forever in Nashville, was he not? He needs time to acclimate to a new team and new system before he can take on a bigger role. I'm fine with them bringing him along slowly.
Yeah I didn't mean right away but in another 4-5 games max I would say. That should be enough for him to show better. He has already show a lot better at C than at W. His first point last night on Toews' goal was with the 2nd line Wingers after all.
