Apparently he made this decision between the first and second round this year, because he asked the Leafs coach the same thing. Why he thinks it’s appropriate to make such a request is beyond me.

If you think Maurice’s head has gotten big, my lord you should hear the writer that follows the team that got interviewed on Sirius yesterday morning. Jamison something? Arguably the most smug guy I’ve listened to speak in a generation. While verbally masturbating about how awesome the team is on the road he said “so….there is no home ice advantage for anyone playing this team - it doesn’t exist”. Like Bettman level of smug.

I want to see McDrai score a hat trick a game at home against these guys with the fans tearing the roof off, picking the cup in front of that crowd. Hopefully whoever pays this dbags salary puts him in the building.

It would have been an easier pill to swallow had they not gone up 2 goals and looked great to start the game. We needed a few great saves, or to clear the net front, guard the back door play to prevent those goals... and maybe a timeout before the game got to 5-3 but whatever. I'm over it. Good run this year. Dundon has to be happy with how much they're charging for parking, tickets and concessions now.

If it were me, I would have told Maurice to shove it up his ass but Rod is a nice guy and doesn't stoop to Maurice level of being an asshole. Make no mistake it's an asshole move to make any request to coach in the heat of disappointing loss like that.
yeah that's something that the two should have discussed well ahead of time even if it was just a brief phone call. I don't for a second think that Paul doesn't have Rod's number.

Pretty much described anyone from Miami. They think their shit doesn't stink. Miami teams being good is preordained and everyone should just accept their greatness. And once they suck again (because Miami teams ALWAYS suck again), why should they pay attention when there's so much else to do in South Beach

Rod isn't great at thinking on his feet when it comes to words/wit, but my guess is his first reaction was how dare you ask me that in this moment. Maurice shook hands in the Tampa series, but somehow in the next 2 comes up with some self righteous philosophical reason to not shake hands?

Maybe the coaching staff didn't play the game, but they made a lot of sacrifices to get there and many of the coaches around the league have relationships with these players. He's high on his own brand, and I sure hope Edmonton prevents that prick from a repeat.

I actually kind of want florida to sweep the final by an average of 5 goals a game, but if they lose i hope the winning coach tells him something like 'i expect your staff to remain on the ice to show respect during the ceremony' just to f with him.

Well that’s us. I very much want to see him be wrong. If you heard the tone he used when talking about it…
I think it's Jamison Olive. And I know he's smug dude but look at Florida's last 5 road games. Pure domination...and last night when the Canes tied it at 3, and the building is going bananas...Barkov makes a mockery of 7 and 50 and perfectly feeds Verhaege who then calmly shelfs the pass. Impressive shit.

My (annual) wish is that whatever the composition of next year's team is that they can keep it together under stress and brush off the setbacks. Losses happen but the folding and playing scared doesn't have to be such a part of their identity. Invest in a good sports psychologist.

Felt like the overall quality of the product across the league was down to me especially in the East...not exactly the "golden age" as promoted. Whenever I could watch, I struggled to sit through whole games. I saw that the Canes average 300K viewers per game during the regular season - second to last in the league yet the champs, the Panthers, were only 1 spot above us. Utah was last. For some reason, I thought the number would be higher but the season is quite long.

Onto the college baseball playoffs...hoping for but not expecting a different outcome...hope everyone has a good summer.

I was enjoying the games this year more than some of the previous years. Difficulty on the viewership comes from FanDuel's limited carriage: Spectrum, DirecTV, Fubo. No Youtube TV, no Hulu, no Sling. As more people cut the cord, they ask whether they should be paying an additional $20/month for FanDuel's streaming package.

I think the viewership would be much better if they left Bally's/FanDuel. But given the contract is through 2028-29 per Hurricanes CEO Brian Fork, I doubt they move.

That was a tough pill. We were right there with them. I give a lot of credit to the team for dominating the Panthers in the 1st and then getting some late bursts in the 3rd. As bad as the 2nd period was, it felt like Florida only had 3 scoring chances and they scored on all 3. Some defensive errors from Nikishin and Orlov, and a really unfortunate play where a linesman blocks the puck which leads to their PP goal. All in all, it feels like a 1-4 series loss is about the best this group can do when you're missing our #2 and #3 right defensemen and have a lot of forwards playing above their pay grade. Hurricanes are a very good team, Panthers are a great team.

We'll all type more up for our offseason plans, but I will say that Brent Burns finishes his contract putting up a valiant effort. He was tremendous defensively this playoffs. As much as many fans want to move on, his defensive play, stickwork, and reach at RD are not easily replaced. Ivan Provorov might be the best option out there at RD. Gavrikov would be my top choice but he's LD. I don't want us to get our hopes up that we're magically going to find a RD out there who is significantly better than Burns. Younger? Sure. Better defensively? I don't know.

The easiest option would be to move up Chat or Walker and then look for a 2nd/3rd pair RD.

This I agree with, should have been discussed at the beginning of the series, before one team looked like they were going to win.

To be fair, I kinda agree with Mo on this, if I’m Martinook or someone and I just played my ass of for multiple games and lost to a bunch of crybaby wankers, ok, I’ll shake the wankers hands afterwards, but by the time I’m congratulating the second assistant stick tape technician, I’d really rather be in the dressing room getting the hell out of there.

Limit it to the head coach and 2 assistants.

But see that's not why Mo did it. It's not from good intention. You have to know the man, and his motives behind some of his bullshit. He's doing it as a show of dominance, and to garner attention on himself. He knew the media would ask him about. Then proceeds to give a long philosophical speech when asked, as if he has some authority in the matter.

The bottom line is it doesn't matter if he believes coaches shouldn't be in the hand shake line. It's not for him to passively impose his beliefs on the opposing coach who just had to sit through watching his team lose a game they had no business losing.

Oh and btw Paul never played in the NHL, but the 2 coaches he abruptly ask not participate have a combined 2538 NHL games under them. These are players coaches. These guys know exactly what the players in that line went through. Paul Maurice can sit his geeky non-playing ass on the bench if he so pleases, but these guys absolutely have earned the right to walk and shake every f***ing players hand and wish them good luck if that is their prerogative. For Paul to even suggest it because he's somehow in fashion now with one cup win, is beyond ludicrous.
