Seravalli has stated that Boston, Calgary, and Minnesota are 3 teams that have shown interest in Casey Mittelstadt.

Mitts is in Bednar’s doghouse and likely to be traded if Colorado can bring in a different 2C, either in a Mitts trade or through another move.

He’d be a good fit on a team that doesn’t put a huge emphasis on pure speed and rush hockey.

Can’t see a Kadri swap unless Calgary is 4-5 points back by the deadline tbh. I’m not very high on Mitts but it’d still be a deal that makes sense for the Flames with Kadri likely only having a couple years of solid play left in him

Aves letting Kadri go unsigned to keep EJ and Manson. Then trading Byram for Mitts. Then Mitts for Kadri.

Avs have liked Zacha in the past. Could see them being interested in him for a swap still.

I actually think Mittelstadt would do extremely well in Boston fwiw.
Seems like a lateral swap but I'm not sure why the Bruins would do that. He seems to have good chemistry with Pastrnak. He does a solid job on the PK (second on Bruin forwards in SHTOI/G). And he makes a million less than Mittelstadt per year.
The Bruins could definitely use Mittelstadt but Zacha doesn't seem to make sense for Boston.
How about Carlo instead?

I don't understand why Colorado is even considering this and if they truly are I don't understand why Brad Treliving isn't on the phone right now.

We need a center and he's 26.

He could be the2C For a decade starting next year.

Because he doesn’t fit the style the Avs play under Bednar at all.

Mittelstadt is a slow, cerebral player who does not excel in rush hockey. Bednar values speed and skating over everything.

Mitts would do quite well on certain teams, but the Avs are an extremely bad fit for him.

This is exactly correct.

They have been making some terrible move since winning the cup.
Hindsight is 20/20.

Manson was a beast during the cup run, and mean top-4 RHD don't exactly grow on trees. Kadri's contract wasn't raved about the moment it was signed and still is a bit worrisome. Only makes sense for the Avs now because of their closing window and the rising cap.

Cap crunch always results in hard decisions. Byram was traded because of his contract status and role on the team, all of that is still true today and he's also on Buffalo's block. 2C options also don't grow on trees - just check out the current trade market. Mitts was available and had a great first 40 games with the Avs. Who knows what's gone sideways the last 30, but a lot of it probably has to do with Bednar, his system, and Mitts being in his own head.

CMac's moves haven't been perfect but I wouldn't classify any of them as 'terrible' - perhaps except the RyJo move and not being proactive with Georgiev. I put more onus on the coach not getting more out of his players (Colton is another example of this). Bednar rides 4 players hard and then hopes for the best.

On topic of the thread... there's no chance JEE is an option from Minnesota, right?

This is exactly it, I could actually see him doing well on all three of those teams. The Avs (and Bednar's) reliance on skating faster, and when that doesn't work skating even faster is not something that he does well in. He ends up chasing the play a lot. He's at his best when he can battle along the boards a bit, slow the game down as his teammates actually set up a cycle. Avs rely very heavily on perimeter play, hoping for a breakdown defensively. There's been countless times Mittelstadt will have a "giveaway' but when you look at the play again it was actually a really nice pass, it's just that his teammates are so far out of scoring positions that it leads to nothing.

I really hope that Mittelstadt does get traded somewhere where he can fit in. He seems like a good guy, and he actually has crazy good vision.
