Maybe I'm nuts but all of stuff I'm reading makes me think a slightly better center playing Kris draper

Draper was the best PKer in the NHL at a time, won a selke and has almost broke 30 goals in his prime. Oh and Draper played center as well and was huge on faceoffs. Probably the fastest guy in the league at one point too.

If this guy is better then Draper then they had a huge steal in the 5th round

Agree with this. He can be a 30-30 guy I think given the opportunity, too bad that it was the friggin Isles who drafted him. I'm sad that he's gonna be gone to the Juniors for the next few weeks so we'll miss him in Mississauga and the coach is gone too. But you guys are assuming that since he's this gritty captain figure who doesn't score a tonne in the OHL, he'll end up being a 3rd liner. His scoring has actually been pretty good in Mississauga and I think under a different system which wasn't so tight defensively, it could be higher and the same can be said for Shugg or Smith-Pelley. Rob Flick on Mississauga might fit that potential 3rd liner stereotype but Cizikas should be aiming for higher.

Isles have completely ballsed it up with Bailey at the moment although he has the talent to recover and we all know the Tavares story so I hope they don't screw up this centre as well. But he is developing in the right place at least.

How exactly have the Isles screwed up Tavares? I haven't heard this story that everyone knows apparently.

Re: the manslaughter case, I've read a decent amount on the incident. From what I understand it was a HS rugby game, Cizikas was 16, Castillo was 15. Castillo had Cizikas in a headlock from behind, Cizikas grabbed him by the legs and drove his head into the ground, killing him. It wasn't a tackle, it was off to the side of a ruck. It seems a little unclear exactly how Castillo died, whether it was pure head injuries or a broken neck, or if the fact that Castillo had sustained a concussion earlier in the season had anything to do with it. The judge ruled that he used excessive force, I think he actually was convicted of manslaughter, but given a light scentence (community service and probation). Since the judge ruled that he used excessive force, it seems safe to assume that it wasn't a run of the mill rugby play, but at the same time I'm sure Cizikas didn't mean to hurt Castillo badly, never mind kill him. The fact that Castillo's parents don't blame Cizikas means IMO that we probably shouldn't either. An absolutely terrible tragedy for Manny Castillo's family, certainly many lives have been permanently altered, but to me it sounds like more of a bad/overly aggressive split-second decision by Cizikas, not a truly malicious act. In hockey terms, more like if someone was killed by a hit from behind than someone being killed by a truly malicious act like a McSorley on Brashear type slash to the head.

As for his game, seemed to be a solid all around player when I've seen him at the WJCs and with the Majors. Doesn't stand out as an offensive star, but maybe I haven't been looking closely enough, and he's certainly not inept offensively. Definitely has a very good all around game, strong defensively and on the PK, and plays an active, physical game. Seems like he should make a good 3rd liner in the NHL, possibly with 2nd line upside depending on who you ask.

Everything ive heard from other who know them say that they are a class act. A tragedy.

Cizikas is a player id have on my team any day of the week. He wont wow you with skill, but hes the type of player that would take a puck in the face if it ment winning. Ultra competitive.
