Forgot to answer this - this makes sense and thank you for pointing it out.The benefit of the sliding contract is that when the contract slides, the signing bonus for the year that slides has already been paid and doesn't slide with it. So the cap hit decreases by that year's signing bonus divided by 3. So if it slides for 1 year, the cap hit decreases by around $30,000. For 2 years, the cap hit decreases by around $60,000. He's a goalie so it's unlikely to matter too much but just an FYI.
