Carter George assigned to the AHL

CBA experts, does this mean he is up for good or is there a 10 game tryout situation?

He's too young to stay in the AHL next season.

There's just a provision that when a junior player's season is over, they can be assigned to the AHL (provided they have a valid contract; for example, they wouldn't be able to assign Matthew Mania to the AHL right now).

Basically it's going to slide another year. But this is an opportunity for him to get some playing time in the AHL for the rest of the season.

Next season, he'll be back in the OHL, except if:
- he decides to commit to the NCAA
- he has an amazing preseason and the Kings keep him up in the NHL

Is there any concern whatsoever here that Carter could cause Hammer to not sign with the Kings and become a FA when his rights expire? I hope not. Sure, i guess we could trade him just beforehand similar to how we got Portillo. But having two top guys fight it out, and even playing together as 1A/1B, would be fantastic.

It's too early to worry about that. He still has three years before he's a free agent. In those three years, George will already have had two years in the AHL. Which means by the time he's eligible for free agency, George would either be a starter in the AHL or a backup in the NHL.

They just have different timelines with their different trajectories.

In today’s NHL it almost seems it’s better to go with two number one goalies that split the time. There may be a room for both of them. Plus only a certain percentage of prospects even pan out so they’re still that.

Hoping they both exceed expectations in a Kings uniform

Considering the potential of up to 4 expansion teams joining the league over the next several years, it is always good to have depth in as many positions as possible.
