Selling low. After last year he was a top 4 d-man, this year he has been brutal but he's not that old, is big and has some skill and a decent shot. Easily a 5/6 on most teams but would be a higher priced one.

The Canucks seem to want to compete now so retention would be odd. But they also have a lot of cap space. Perhaps more than any other cup contender.

Would they retain 50% on Soucy for 2 years if it means getting a first rounder? Or is that out of the question for their plans?

Feel like Vancouver is going to have to pay to move him out. Can't see anyone wanting him with an additional year left.
Lol you and girardspinorama consistently have the worst takes, keep it up very entertaining reads!

Back to reality, there's not enough decent defensemen in the league there'll always be demand for a big stay at home D to make a deal work. Maybe for only a 3rd or something but its available, and the cap is less relevant now than ever the past decade.

He's looked good every year except this one, think he'll bounce back in a different scenario. Canucks have been a tire-fire, would imagine a few players getting bogged down by the noise.

I doubt they’d pay to get rid of him this year now that they have cap space. They can afford to keep him, even if he’s a healthy scratch and deal with it in the offseason. They’ve shown a willingness to move players to a better situation if they’ve fallen out of favour though, so they’re probably either seeing if someone wants D depth for for the playoffs for cheap or if there’s a swap for someone else struggling with a similar contract where both players might benefit from a change of scenery.

He’s been brutal though this year after a strong season last year. Not sure if something physical or mental is going on at the same time or if he’s checked out stemming from locker room issues, but he’s a bit young to completely fall off like he has.

With Pettersson off the market now and a couple teams with UFA dmen electing to keep them, I can't imagine Vancouver will have trouble moving him for a recent return. Should bolsters anyone's 3rd pairing at the very least. 2nd pairing guy on several teams.

He was never a top 4 caliber but still not a bad player. For some reason vancouver decided to also get forbort and diharnaise types. All size and no skill is an interesting way to build d. Could be a good fit with Malinski in Colorado.

I’d take him on the flames for a 4th or a 5th but I can’t see Vancouver helping out the team they’re trying to catch

No they are clearly going to need the cap going into the off season I think they want to go big name hunting.

Dumb. Yeah he's struggled this year but he's shown that he can be an effective in the top 4 in the past. Can play on the right side very well but Toccher is so annoying with having right handed always on the right side - even the disaster that is 35-0-0 Juulsen. The team finally has good depth with D-petey and MP on the L side

Hughes - Myers
M Pettersson - Hronek
E Pettersson - Soucy
Forbort

That's perfectly fine especially because Hughes can somehow carry a top 4 Myers.

Think he can fetch a 3rd round pick, plus maybe a 5th. GMs will value a 6’5 dman who played well in the playoffs lasg year. Just no room for him, with the explosion of young talent coming up on defence for the Canucks.

Hughes - Willander
EP25 - Hronek
MP29 - Myers
Forbort - Juulsen/Mancini

Kudryavtsev and Mynio on the fast track as well.

OMG he still comments? I must've blocked him a long time ago:DD

if they make playoffs, you can be sure 2 or 3 of them will be hurt traveling back and forth on the west coast. Soucy is guy that can play a little dirty, we dont have many of those, like that cross check on McJesus last year, if he decides to slam his stick to Garland's head next time.

Who the f*** gave Carson Soucy a NTC

Really giving mid guys NTCs to keep the AAV down seems to be kind of working out for GMs because they can just threaten to waive them and send them down unless they waive

Don’t think many of them are keen on riding a bus in the AHL if they can waive and stay in the show

Good point! Hadn't considered it.

Threatening to waive them also puts fear into them of being claimed by a bottom feeder and/or a less preferred destination so they would be more open to a trade to where they might like to play. This happens quite regularly.

Soucy at 1.75 millions or whatever half would be is worth a lot. Obviously the Canucks wouldn't want to retain for two years. But I could see Soucy returning a first and another minor asset. Which would be a good return if the cap can be juggled next year.

It's hard to know if you can juggle the cap if you're hunting UFAs though. So I can see why they want to avoid this.
