Someone that’s smarter than me (and that’s all of you): Canadian dollar is at .70. What kind of hit is that for Carrier, roughly? This is actually a serious question from me. Is there any kind of offset? Thx.

I believe I might be an expert on that. I have a degree in sports medicine and I have a degree in business administration.

Fact is woah mama. Quebec has the highest taxes in Canada I believe at Carrier’s tax bracket he will be taxed 55% no I am not joking 55%.

Which leads me to a question did Montreal go? “Does he speak French?”

Barry Trotz went “is he a big player?”

Trotz is going big and young

That but more the tax implications, as well. As in, does he take an unintentional big paycut? I know it’s been discussed a lot, but I’m curious about this specific deal.
I believe players have to file taxes in the locales where they play games.

Carrier is from Quebec, so he may not be overcome with sadness and depression in escaping Brunostan.

Carrier is clearly the better player, but he is a bit undersized and seems best suited to a 3rd pairing role. Which is fine, but he is being paid 2nd pairing $. Which is less fine.

Now a better GM would have realized that and not signed him to this contract, but that isn't the world we live in so good that he finally figured it out and was basically able to undo this mistake. Let's see if he can replicate this with some of his others.

Pretty sure Jankowski was too. I was just giving background. I don’t care where a guy is picked as long as he’s good.

What I’m hearing from Habs fans is he has offensive talent but here’s footsteps and isn’t good defensively. At least he’s 6’2”.
He's our very new lucky wabbit's (Cal) Foote! Yay!

Could’ve let him walk but instead re-signed him and flipped him. Real 4-D chess move by Trotz.

Since Jan 1, 2024
Fabbro signed, waived, lost
Wedgewood, signed, traded
Carrier signed 1 Jul, traded
Tomasino signed in September, traded for next to nothing.

Now we have MDG on waivers when he might get lost for nothing considering this trade.

Four players signed since March either traded or waived away.

Hey, look on the bright side - he's finally figured out that a lot of the guys he recently signed may have been bad ideas. ;)

I didn't want the Preds to re-sign Carrier, so I guess if we get nothing back for him that's no real loss. Although secretly I was hoping we could hoodwink some team out there into giving up something for Carrier. Some fans of other teams seem to harbor the illusion that Carrier is actually good. We know better. I guess it was too much to hope that other GMs might be fooled as easily.

Not that Barron is exactly nothing, but he can't hold down a job on one of the other worst teams in the league, so I'm not getting my hopes up. He's not the same type of player, but this feels like a Cal Foote level of "still has potential".

Although that said, I have probably over-resented Carrier to some extent, given he kept getting gifted opportunity ahead of Fabbro, when it was pretty clear that Fabbro was the better player.

All NHL players are paid in US $

Carey Price who is from BC has played all his career in Canada and as such, has always paid his bills in CDN $. So his 10,5 M US $ per tyear contract was over 15 M CDN $…. That’s lots of dough.

Now I wonder if Montreal would like Lauzon?
They badly need RHD because right now they had only a vet, Savard, and a bad young one, Barron. The most promising ones are not at NHL level yet. They had to play to lefties on the right side because Barron was not safe at all, and was sitting 50% of the time.
