You would rather let your healthy scratch defenseman than taking a 3rd rounder for him? Thats an interesting take
You’re forgetting the retention ask. That’s what’s worth the most in the proposed deal. The Preds aren’t going to use the slot just to get a 3rd round pick. It’s not the player, not his salary, and not the pick that have value. It’s the retention slot and any potential higher-value use they could make of it in a separate bigger deal.

I get that, fair enough. I don't know how the Oilers could fit Carrier, or Fabbro, without retention or some $$$ going back the other way or both.

Neither have TONS of value on the open market but they are definitely upgrades on what the Oilers have on the right side.

I *think* Preds fans desire management to keep open slots for retention on bigger contracts. The big ones you guys might want to move either have full no move clauses or partial no moves. So all of those bigger deals are much harder to make and would return less than the players real value.

Sounds a lot like the Oilers contract situation, actually.

At any rate I think Carrier, Fabbro, Sissions, and McCarron would be fine additions to the Oilers line up that shouldn't cost a lot to get. It should be possible to make some kind of deal here .

I don't see anyone on that list warranting a 1st round pick (even with retention) but they definitely have some trade value to Edmonton.

Edit: Fabbro is on waivers

Carrier just signrd an extension in Nashville.....if the Oilers are looking for a skating RHD Jokiharju with the Sabres last year of his contract and a healthy scratch the last several games.

He is also an option.

Carrier is not untouchable, if that is what you're implying. He has no trade protection and if he is underperforming, as are a lot of the Preds roster (a situation Oiler fans are all too familiar with) so he could get dealt.

What would be the cost to acquire Alexandre Carrier from the Preds, say with around 50% retention?

Oilers can offer futures, and perhaps a small salary going back to even out the cap hit. That's about all they can offer. Everyone up front has a NTC it seems.

Alexandre Carrier, 28, RHD $3.75M X 3 Smallish defenseman at 5'11" and 174 lbs, mobile skater, can do a lot of things but isn't flashy. Steady. Maybe has trouble with larger forwards but doesn't cough up the puck a lot.

What would the Preds be looking for?
It wouldn't take much from my standpoint.

Fabbro for Savoie is something Nashville should consider. Or maybe Nashville values Sam O'Reilly higher.

Nashville's pick of one or the other for Fabbro.... something Nashville at least considers.

He is literally available for free today.

You guys have to get a grip on reality.

I think it’s the retention again that would be worth that. But since the Preds absolutely refuse to retain I’m glad they set Fabbro free now so that he can go play somewhere. Letting him walk as a UFA after another season of screwing him around would have been much worse for him.
