Marner is 5 years younger, 1st year of ELC, could challenge for the Rookie scoring title and ultimately the Caulder. I know its still very early in his career but because Faulk is already well into his NHL career I would put the plus on the CAR.

Both are great players youth and its cap flexibilty and control are king in a hard cap world.

The age dynamic is different when you're comparing a forward to a defenseman. Dmen develop more slowly and usually age better. If you look at the next 5 years of Marner and the next 5 years of Faulk, chances are you're talking about the peak of both careers.

In any case, as stated above... there is no plus on either side here. Both teams would be giving a major, cornerstone asset. The deal either stands as a 1-for-1 or it doesn't.

JVRs value is high because unlike some, i ask myself would i want this player on my team. and the answer to that is hell yes. hes 27? cost controlled for 3 years and can play LW with dominance as long as he isnt slowed down by injuries.

easily worth a 1st and a decent prospect. btu i wouldnt say adding a first to JVR gets you faulk either

lets call it

Marner and 1st (top 3 protected)

for faulk and skinner.

if its top 3 Canes get 1st next year and a third as compensation for waiting a year.

and believe me i LOVE Marner. kid is gonna be a good one. but i just dont think the diff between him and skinner is as high as Faulk and 1st

this makes you guys better today and for the next 10 years.

I don't think that any of our big 3 prospects, or Rielly/Zaitsev will be in play because dealing them just opens another hole

If Carolina was looking for futures and was willing to deal Faulk, would our 1st next year plus the return from JVR to a contender (later 1st plus a good prospect) get the conversation started? There's a good chance that 1st rounder ends up being top 10 and a decent chance it ends up top 5, so just wondering if getting JVR into a liquid form of prospects and picks changes the perspective at all

I'm also not opposed to just drafting and developing some RHD, but Faulk is young enough and fits a need to make him worth maneuvering for if there's a deal to be made without opening another hole

So would end up as a base of High 1st (2017)+Low 1st (2017)+good prospect (probably a guy ranked in the 20-40 range I would think, not an elite type but something that hockeysfuture would have called an 8.0C likely)
