GDT: Carolina @ Sabres, 7:00 pm EDT The Process Of Elimination Continues...

Can’t wait for Adams to cite the momentum at end of the season and “being in the hunt in April” as the reasons they’re gonna run this flaming turd of a team back and have the same roster holes while a shitload of cap space sits unused

Its absolutely amazing how a team like Montreal bottomed out and somehow made the playoffs before us only 3 players on their team broke 50 points while Adams mortgaged so much to improve depth.

Nothing shows the slow, anguishing death of this team's fans due to the decade and a half of incompetence than a GDT in the second period of a game they are winning and it's on the first page of responses.
We all thank you for your service...
Its weird how they haven't resigned him. Adams would rather go with UPL and Levi next year.
If you're referring to Reimer, there is no reason for BUF to have re-signed him in-season, whether prior to this late season run, or during it, or in-between periods of tonight's game. And if BUF did offer already, Reimer's correct move is to wait until the offseason. He is 37yo. His next contract could be his last. Could be his last chance at a Cup. And he has earned the right to decide for whom he wishes to play. If he re-signs now, or had already re-signed, he's choosing a team who hasn't made the playoffs in 15 seasons. I don't know any goalie in his skates who wouldn't want to wait until the offseason to decide. All the above is independent of what (rightly or wrongly) Adams is thinking, or not thinking (out of incompetence or apathy or whatever).

Edit: On vacation, no access to live game. Gonna watch the highlights. Guess I missed a good one, by Sabres standards. This team... :(

Since moving posts to their appropriate thread is not working right now - thanks Xenforo - I will say that Adams did f*** all after just missing and that lead to last season's back sliding. There is also the overstuffed farm team STILL and not enough winning hockey players on the NHL roster. I don't see much issue with any future "mortgaging" since that implies large scale moves that simply haven't happened.

I'm no fan of Adams --- but what exactly did he mortgage? Savoie and a couple 2nd round picks?

That's not exactly a huge mortgage there............
it is when you are getting mostly garbage play from the depth you worked so hard to get a 2nd from a team that can't make it are actually considerably more value than the guys you could can get for free in FA to play horribly. 2nds are are actually relatively valuable when your team isn't even a playoff team.....

Win 7 of 8 but still getting eliminated from the playoffs is the most Sabres thing ever.

montreal just had to have their goalie go on a MASSIVE heater at the worst possible time

they were badly outplayed the last 2 games yet still got 4 points

I have a handful of DVR'ed games to watch or re-watch (if I choose to) to validate the following:
Maybe a low-sample size biased view, but Reimer's lateral motion control is way better than Lehner's (when he was in BUF) and UPLs. I rarely (never?) see Reimer over-push and floundering to get back to a more centered-in-crease position.

@Der Jaeger or @oldgoalie or any other former netminders care to comment?

Couple questions for those who watched

1) how was ostlund

2) watching the highlights it looks like sabres got way more chances 5v5, but stats showed xgf heavily in favor of canes. Which is closer to reality?

Much the same story for the Sabres, realistically they shouldn’t have choked 2 games to them. Likely wouldn’t be in this position.

Ostlund continues to impress. I see him as the first callup next year when Norris gets hurt, and he could force his way into the lineup.

Canes did their usual "generate lots of shots without really looking dangerous" thing, Reimer had a couple big saves but otherwise all he had to do was not give up the softie and he did not give up the softie. Sabres didn't generate as many shots, but they got some real nice looks they didn't capitalize on (looking at you, Mr Jack "Shoot into the upper deck on a 2-on-1" Quinn) and of course a few they did.

Yeah in the highlights there were a few odd man rushes we didn't covert on, but seemed like easily could have been goals. The canes' highlights seemed like more shots with some traffic in front, but didn't feel incredibly dangerous. The Aho miss was the only one that felt like a should be goal.

Evolving hockey has this as 1.5% expected goal

on one hand, the gaping net isn't there if the goalie plays it better, so its not like buffalo created an incredibly high scoring chance, but it shows the vulnerability of the stat.

The biggest part of the garbage play that has sunk the team involves players who were here who Adams not only wanted, but extended. Cozens, Luukkonen, Power, Quinn and Samuelsson are the stuffing in this shit sandwich. It's not on the fourth line, that's for sure.

it's not contextual, it's statistical based on the average goal expectancy from that position 5 on 5. It's not considering if the goalie is splayed out on the ice like like a starfish.

Ostlund takes his job on that line seriously and seems to be focusing on making sure he's defensively responsible first and foremost.

The 2nd and 3rd were pretty low-key for both, though by the time it went to 3-0 score effects certainly were in the back of my mind. But the first period, Buffalo was blocking a lot of shots and got out attempted vastly. I just don't think it was indicative of being badly outplayed though... it didn't seem like that was the issue.
