If they had league standard team defense, they'd be in the hunt as well.

Team defense and goaltending are compounding factors, they'll have to be "fixed" in tandem. And some of that is luck, even more of that is not taking penalties (and also not having braindead special teams in general), and the rest is positioning and puck possession.

There are a number of Sabre skaters who do not and have not displayed basic concepts of how to play defense at this level. When that improves, the goaltending will also show improvement.

The goaltending getting to an unsustainable level will only mask the problem of so many important skaters being deficient on their own side of the ice for so long.

Right now Reimer is playing lights out and UPL can’t stop a beach ball. Earlier this season Reimer was pretty poor and UPL had stretches of okay play. Presumably behind the same team defense. I think our goalies are just super inconsistent (this includes Levi).
