Proposal: Carolina-Minnesota

I think he cares enough about the team being competitive, and I think this trade implies the team would rather collect futures and be less competitive. He might like playing with Ek and Boldy but he probably cares more about playing meaningful games in the spring
There are current NHL players on both sides of the deal.

If the deal went through as is, the centers would probably go Eriksson Ek - Yurov - Kotkaniemi - Gaudreau. So nothing really changes for Kaprizov.

That said, I'm not a fan of it.

Expecting Yurov to just walk into the league as a center, let alone a top 6 center is pretty bold.
Other teams seem to do it occasionally with their highly regarded prospects. Not saying he's going to walk in as 70 point Selke nominee or anything, but yeah, I'm hoping his starting point is a decent middle 6 center and an improvement on that in year 2.

It varies from prospect to prospect but teams rarely just throw their prospects into the deep end without a backup plan. Especially teams looking to make the playoffs. Take Wyatt Johnston for example. He made the Stars out of camp as a 19 year old but he wasn't inserted as a top 6 center right away.

Good thing Yurov turns 22 soon then. Apples and oranges…

Yurov is going to turn 22 this year, and has played in a pro league for 2 seasons.

The backup plan would probably be Hartman playing on his wing for any center-related responsibilities that he might need to handle (d-zone face-offs for one).

Looking at some other 2022 draftees:
Cooley's first season was 44 points at ~19 years old
Wright's was 44 points at ~21.
Gauthier's was 44 points at ~21.
Kasper's was 37 points at ~20 but only 77 games.
Nazar's 82 game pace (only played 53) at ~21 was 40 points.

This is what I'm expecting for Yurov's 1st season at 21-22 years old, depending on deployment/usage/linemates of course, which is what I mean by "decent". Not expecting much PP time year 1.

By all account, Kap is all but expected to sign a block buster contract extension early July. Everyone seems to be positive that's heading in that direction, if not outright done and will just need to be announced
