So far the Carolina Hurricanes have averaged 42.1 shots on goal per game in their first 8 games this season. The record is held by the legendary 1970-71 Boston Bruins who averaged 40.6 shots on goal per game. The 1970-71 Boston bruin is the only team in NHL history to average at least 40 shots on goal per game for a full season: Facts and Figures: Hurricanes piling up shots, not goals
What's remarkable is that the 2018-19 Carolina Hurricanes is basically just made up of Aho, a few Rookies and a bunch of washed up jobbers, while the 1970-71 Boston Bruins was full of legendary Hall of famers like Esposito, Orr, Bucyk, Hodge and Cashman. The 1970-71 Boston Bruins had a whopping 10 20 goal scorers, only one less than Don Cherry's 1977-78 Boston Bruins who holds the record with 11 20 goal scorers.
This bodes well for the 2018-19 Carolina Hurricanes if those shots starts going in. Just imagine Aho, Ferland, Teravainen, Williams, Staal, Foegele, Svechnikov, Faulk, Martinook and Pesce all scoring at least 20 goals this season.
