I mean, Lack wasn't touched. So calling it goaltender interference would have been near impossible, and even if they went by Tripp's interpretation, it was difficult to tell if he started in the crease.
Still, what do the Canes have to lose? Nothing. They lose a TO, big deal. It was a low chance that Peters would win it, but it was worth a shot. They can't *** score so give it a shot. Especially since the game is essentially meaningless.
Problem is, people focus on our bottom guys. Look at all the angst over Jordan, Terry and Malone. While they aren't great, they aren't the problem. The problem is we need more top end guys.
If the score was more out of hand, I'd agree.
But a 1-goal game? I'd rather have the timeout.
I'm the opposite. When is the last time a time out changed the course of a game?
If the score was out of hand, why even bother. Peters knows the season is over (in terms of playoffs) and he knows the team can't score to save their lives. If there's even a slim chance he can get a goal overturned, you take it. A time-out is meaningless. Yes, there is a slim chance that at time-out may matter, but it's just that, a very slim chance.
It was a slim chance that goal gets overturned. Honesty, there's a better chance the Canes tie the game and then ice the puck late in the game, where a timeout would be sorely needed.
Edit: And Forslund was simply agreeing with his partner. It's be bad form if he didn't, especially considering how gung-ho Tripp was.
I agree there, but I think clearing out the garbage and filling the bottom with above replacement level players is important too. If the goal is to build a team like Chicago, LA, Detroit, etc., those teams don't have Terry's Malone's, and Jordan's in their lineup.
