Foegele's trade value exceeds his contract value at $2.5-3 million for me. I don't want Foegele in a top-6 and I don't think any 3rd line winger who isn't a PP/PK specialist should be making a penny over $3 million.

The point of the Canes having a top-5 prospect pool is that they don't have to overpay the likes of Foegele, McGinn, and Martinook. Churn the bottom-6 with ELCs.

I could see a struggling team like Buffalo overpaying to bring in a hard worker from a top team with the hopes that he can juice the compete.

All that said, I fully expect a $3+ million Foegele and an overpaid Martinook to be on the team next year. Martinook is a league minimum player that the Canes will probably give $2 million. Carl Soderberg is better in every single aspect and just got $1 million x 1 year.

Good point on Foegele. Trade makes sense if you get fair value back. I'm also but worried Martinook will be retained and paid for intangibles.

Problem is you are removing grinders and replacing them with Geekie, Jarvis type of players. Out of the prospect pool Rees and Cotton might be best stylistic fit for bottom six duties.

McLovin takes too much heat around here, he's an ideal bottom/middle 6 winger if you ask me. I hope we can keep him around long term at a reasonable price, but I think he'll probably get more elsewhere and we'll really miss him -- unless one of our other young guys can step up in his place but I wouldn't assume that'll be easy.
He gets flak, because when he messes up he messes up big time. People will tolerate this far more in case of someone like Aho (who is well Aho), Pesce (who was our best D-man in the first third of the season) or Dougie (who racks up points like Robo racks up infractions because of fools on Main Board).
I know Brock is UFA but I think McLovin is still RFA, maybe arbitration eligible though. Out of Martinook, Brock, Foegs I would keep Foegele due to being RFA and best 5vs5 scorer.

I guess both Brock and Martinook can't leave due to both playing PK. I think both of them are too expensive for their roles in flatcap environment. It's also possible Martinook is kept for the leadership and versatility.

It’s tough between those three. But if Lorentz/Geekie step up we don’t need Marty for center depth (he’s better at wing anyway) and Brock is better as the depth scoring/PK option... while being more expensive. I would miss Martinook as a player, so LET’S WIN THE DAMN CUP WHILE HE’S STILL HERE.

Foegele imho needs another Capital Slayer streak going to justify his contract. GET THAT STREAK GOING HANDS OF STONE.

Remember that TT usually PK's, but isn't available. Foegele can also PK.

TT-Aho
Staal-Fast
Tro-Foegele

Should be just fine as PK lines without McGinn and Martinook.

hey caners ! I've watched most of the games last 2 seasons but this season i've missed a lot... Anyone can tell me whats going on with andrei ? thanks!
He's Dead... Passes to no one and He's gripping his stick tight since players aren't where he expects them to be. And even when he gets it to them they whiff. And His shot is off this season.

Ummm, a bunch of our guys already got COVID. Wouldn't shock me if more of our guys than the ones that got sick from it have antibodies. I think we should be alright.

If they had it in their system from earlier this season, they would have popped a positive test.

unless they tested positive during the pause or in the offseason, I would assume everyone who wasn’t held out is susceptible until the team is fully vaccinated*.

*If we are getting to general public eligibility, why the hell aren’t teams at least partially vaccinated already?

Symptoms and separation after the 2nd dose costs the players time away

If that's the view, then i think expectations are pretty far off. Aho is a 1C who gets paid a fortune and tons of prime ice time. Pesce is a 2/3 D who is on a great contract, but is higher up on both the pay and playing time scale. Same for Dougie.

Foegele is gets bottom six minutes and gets paid like a bottom sixer, because that's what his talent and skill dictate he should be. Thus he's going to "mess-up" at times and not have highs like Aho, Pesce, or Dougie, etc.. If he did, he'd be paid more and get more minutes. All teams have players like that. IMO, the "good" of Foegele far outweighs the bad in the role he's in, and that's exactly what you want.

If his contract demands get too high, you move on. If not, you keep him.

I think that’s the big question: at what price point do you need more offense from a player than “Holy **** that worked!!??”

I don’t know either, but I think Foegele is getting close.
