Player Discussion Carey Price - Moving Home Edition

He was involved in lots of camps during the offseason even when he was active. I can’t see a scenario where he doesn’t become a goalie coach. Most likely in the West so he’s closer to family.
Camps are one thing. Becoming a full time nhl goalie coach seems like a grind and a big commitment. Maybe I'm wrong but I just don't see it with him.

Whether he wants to go threw the grind of an NHL season is something only he can answer. But he seems to love the game and was broken when he could no longer play. He was 10-15 years ahead of his time with how the current generation of goalies play the game now so he would make a great a goalie coach for anyone that could convince him.

Fine. Don't go Cup if you don't want. But going connection....Koivu connected...should we retire 11? Kovalev connected...should we retire 27? Subban connected...should we retire 76? Jersey retiring should be synonym of nobody is worth to wear that jersey. I swear, as much as we like Carey and I do think he was the best goalie of his generation, in 5-10 years, nobody would care if Tony Tartempion wears 31. But a lot of people would care if the same Tony would wear No10.

Still wondering why it was fine for Flockart to wear 29 without people saying anything....but thne you have to retire Dryden. Why is was fine for O'Byrne to wear 3...

you know a guy is special when NOBODY wore No9 after 1960. Or nobody wore 4 after 1971. Or nobody wore 10 after 1985.

Hey I guess Carey Price's number is on a watch list...maybe in 10-15 years, if nobody has the nerve to wear No31 since Carey left...maybe he'd fit the point I'm trying to make...

And just before a smartass comes to me and talk about Ben Maxwell being the only guy to have worn No80......so we should retire it....it's not because Maxwell was great..it's because it's an ugly ass hockey number...lol
Assuming these aren't actually rhetorical questions
Koivu he has a case yes though it's kind of where I would see the threshold with him either being just inside or just outside
Kovalev and Subban, no in large part because they didn't spend enough of their career with the Habs

I don't think you can use the no one would dare wear a certain number because there are certainly players who would dare either through ignorance or ego or both. I can't remember who but I do remember stories about players joining the organization, asking for a number and being told no because it was retired. So you can't rely on what players would be willing to do. Not too mention I doubt anyone would "dare" to wear 66 because of Mario even though he never even played with us, should we retire that number too? At the end of the day that's just not what I see jersey retirements being about.

Well...Number 99 is retired by every team no? Would not mind number 66 either. As far as ignorance of players, well strangely, that ignorance didn't make anybody wear the 4, the 9 and 10 after those guys worn them. And like I said, Gallagher wore 11 and nobody said he was ignorant towards Koivu? Nobody thought that for any of the players that wore every number that are up the rafters. I didn't think Brian Bellows was ignorant for wearing 23...I thought Gainey should not have seen his jersey retired. Same with Stéphane Quintal with No5 with Geoffrion, same with Schneider or Denis Savard despite Serge Savard's 18s...

Everybody knows why that stupidity got intense right? When Gainey was in charge and couldn't do shit with his team in the present....he decided to honour the past so that the present wouldn't be so bleak.

Personally I find #99 being retired across the NHL pretty stupid, and given your argument that it should be about cups then Gretzky's 4 cups is really not that special.

And the point is that players were told no by the team it had nothing to do with respect and not daring to wear a number. It's just some arbitrary decision by the onwer/management.

The last paragraph is so off, I don't even know where to start.

Does CP31 become a goalie coach once his deal expires??
If he ever does, I can’t imagine it would be with the Habs, the guy bolted out to Robidas island as fast as he could when he decided not to try surgery to prolong his career. He has been away from the team for 4 years now ? If he would have had any interest in helping out in any mentoring role or whatever, he would have stuck around.

Number retiring is so cringe , done with that and also video tributes when you trade a guy and he makes his return. How about actually winning a cup and then we talk jersey retirement? Unpopular opinion, but I think Price was done with hockey and this team years ago.

He worked with Montembeault prior to the WC a couple years ago.

Everything that was retired before 85 made total sense. Then, Plante in 95? Okay. SUDDENLY, From 2005 to 2014 we retired 11 freakin jerseys.

So my bad....I should has said ''When Gainey was GM and couldn't do a whole lot, PIERRE BOIVIN answer was to concentrate on the past instead of the present.

There was more effort for the Centenaire du CH than the product on the ice. Retiring jerseys should have been kept exclusive to the real greats not only of the team but of the league. 'Cause when you started retiring all those jerseys...you are missing more. Where's Jacques Lemaire? Why not Steve Shutt? Hey some say Koivu. Geez, if Koivu...why not Plekanec? How come Aurele Joliat isn't up there while his number is?

Just picked up an official autographed framed photo of Price in his first NHL game against the penguins for 100$ at a garage sale. Hung it in my "man cave" in the garage.
