Well deserved. Incredible player. Wonder if he'll have his number retired by Habs. Id say it's already de facto retired but he'd be the first I believe without a cup. It's a tragedy he never had any offensive help.
Definitely well deserved. Now let's see if this management decides to retire his jersey.
Look at it this way: If you played for the Habs at any point from the 1940s through the 1970s you got at least one Cup ring just by being on the same roster as Montreal's elite talent.I still think he'll get the jersey retired. He certainly deserves it. But it's not guaranteed.
I totally agree with you. Times have changed and with there being more teams. The Stanley Cup criteria should not be a factor imo. I'm not saying everyone should have their jersey retired for Montreal. I was a huge Gallagher lol kidding Koivu fan. As well as he did for the Habs, considering the horrible teams he played on. He didn't do enough to receive any consideration to having his jersey retired.Look at it this way: If you played for the Habs at any point from the 1940s through the 1970s you got at least one Cup ring just by being on the same roster as Montreal's elite talent.
Time to jettison the idea that winning a Cup is the standard for having your number retired. I doubt it ever was. It was just a happy coincidence that if you played for Montreal long enough you'd end up winning one.
Carey Price meets every possible criterion for having his number hanging in the rafters. The only thing his career lacked was lucky timing.

Yeah, every name hanging from the rafters won a Cup – back then, every single Montreal Canadien did.
