Proposal: Carey Price contract?

You're not married, are you? I can't imagine Carey Price telling his wife he is going to give up $2 million just so he can "remain a single team player", particularly when such a trade would not require the family to move and there's no chance he'd play a game for any team other than the Canadiens.

Also, he can't just take the signing bonus and disappear from the cap math. It doesn't matter that he's effectively retired already.

His total salary next season is 7.5m, of which 5.5m is signing bonus due this July 1st…considering it’s just 2m remaining, he should just retire after the signing bonus is paid and remain a single team player.

He’s made a lot of money, that final 1. whatever is irrelevant to his legacy as a Habs goalie…. At this point his best option is take the signing bonus, retire a hab during the offseason and then get a grand farewell sendoff ceremony before some home game next season.
