No one should ever again put these two princess pretenders in the same breath with guys like Gilmour and Clark, who although not getting it done, showed up to go to war every night.

These boys are super lucky those players don't play in this league anymore. They would have made them their little btiches if they were around

Both of them didn't show up. Lets not sugarcoat it.
AM did more but he needed to do more.
Marner didn't do anything.

Lets put this in baseball terms.

AM went 5 for 30 with a homer and played great defence with no errors.
Marner went 1 for 30 with no homer, played okay defence but made a few errors that cost the team a game or two.

Both stats are bad but one is a lot worse than the other.

Matthews had a decent playoffs last year, so he's given more of a pass.

Marner, on the other hand, seems to be getting worse in the playoffs.

In his first 16 playoff games, Marner has 5 goals 16 points. In his last 16 playoff games, he has ZERO goals and 9 points.

Marner was better those first two years, which skews those stats. But those games are ancient history. He's disappeared in the playoffs.

Marner was better with Lou Lam as his GM, and Babcock as his coach when he was just 20 & 21 years old, then he is now at age 23 & 24 with Dubas as his GM and Keefe as his coach.

I have the reason behind that also ... Babcock sheltered Marner and used him as a secondary scorer playing him with JVR & Bozak his 1st season and Marleau and Kadri his next, and he kept Matthews and Marner separated as they both could drive offense on their own lines and make them tougher to check and shutdown apart vs together. It also creates mismatches against opposition lines deep down the line-up and this is how you properly use a deep bench and roster efficiently and effectively and manage ice time to keep everyone fresh.

Keefe only uses him as a primary offensive weapon and gives him +24 minutes a night running him into the ground and always plays Matthews and Marner together so all the opposition has to do is toss one Phillip Danault this year or Boone Jenner last year to shutdown Leafs top line and make the Leafs beat you with secondary scoring.

Babcock put Marner a smaller skilled forward not really built stylistically to excel in playoff style hockey in roles in which he could contribute and succeed, and Keefe utilizes him only in a role in which he is going to fail as he has these past couple of years under the new coach.

Thats a good observation. Something I thought Keefe would try in season. Split the big 4 into 3 lines and see if they can make others play better.

I'm confused, u just cometely made up those baseball stats lol. Literally out of thin air..

No one drafted Marner to be a pure goal scorer, nor should anyone expect it. Nor did anyone expect Ichiro to hit HRs. Marner's job is to rack up points and assists. He's done that as well (as poor) as AM in the playoffs. Period.

I think they drafted Marner hoping he would become a C, lol.
I am not defending AM bc he needed to do a lot more than he did.
Same with Marner. Both of them just disappeared.
Keefe also needs to be held accountable for not breaking them up even for a few shifts.

When golden boy perfect passer is awful, deflect the blame towards someone's else. Typical for his fan group. Marner has been awful in all but one playoffs, but some folks only see him as this player who can do wrong. He was worse then Matthews in this series and thats just the truth.
Matthews has consistenly shown up in the playoffs and was good this one but couldn't finish.
I love the Marner points argument. So basically he can be awful but look at the points. What a player this guy is.
Hopefully this entitled too good for anyone is off the team. He can show his season passing magic skills to some other team.
