OT: Career advice Part II

Had the interview with the job I really want and now will sit here ruminating because that's just me. Not my best work. Some positives and it wasn't a disaster. But I'm not feeling as good as I usually do after interviews. That said usually when I feel good I don't progress to the next round anyway.

Here's a hypothetical and curious if/how you all have dealt with it:

-Great job on a resume (in all aspects) that is stunting your development outside of work, and doesn't allow you to take advantage of all the internal resources.

What have you done and when was your "yup, it's time to start sending the CV" moment?

The funny thing is it's a tech company so they won't care. Also in the JD it says it's hybrid and I was told it was hybrid during the HR screen. Also it sounded pretty flexible.

It doesn't matter I don't think I got it. I should hear back soon but I have a bad feeling.

I admire all of you that keep trying. Its not easy looking and interviewing for new opportunities. With a tightening market I hope you all find a way to get your foot in the door. Multiple millionaires/billionaies started in a mail room (or equivalent). Just keep going for it.

That is hard at work. I used to dread seeing the main receptionist at my brokerage. One of the reasons I quit but I was very young. Now Id just ignore her.

It's a strange dynamic. We were both hired at the same time by the same hiring manager. We both report to him, but she's technically a grade/level higher, so I have to kind of follow her lead. Again, I don't report to her. She's also a young'un who thinks she knows everything. Planning and strategy is her function, and not mine, I'm more on the tactical level, though our boss had asked me to lend strategy.

I've decided that I'm going to step back and let her do her thing and let her plan. The funny thing is, I read her plan and thought "this is trying to boil the ocean". She sent it to our boss, and he literally responded don't try to boil the ocean.

How's that butting heads?

Sounds like you are fully capable of figuring it out without an advice but just in case you need to spend your early days on showing that you're hard worker, team player and able to follow instructions (from your superiors). Get the basics down and then take it from there.

I understand but don't stop trying. Things have been getting tighter. Many years ago I took an envelope and wrote dozens of companies on it. I just made contacting everyone on that envelope my full time job. It worked. I eventually got 3 offers from that envelope list.

I find it that it comes in waves. Maybe you'll have three in a week after 2 months of nothing.

I'm just tired of being completely ghosted by recruiters after having really positive conversations.

Or not having one ridiculously niche skill for a generic role. It's almost like there is no ability to learn on the job anymore. I'm 54 effing years old. I have over 30 damn years of working experience. I'm not stupid. I can learn things quickly.
