This should be happening this year and Mozeliak should have "retired" a year early.

IDK if Bloom is the answer, and the revamp of the minors needs to be done, but Mo's stench will still be on the 2025 club even in a 'rebuilding' year. Bloom will probably just fire Marmol for his own guy next year anyway. Why not do it this year and hire Schumaker or someone?

4 years of Arenado and Goldschmidt and they were a whopping 0-3 in the playoffs. Not even completely their fault though. Goldschmidt won the MVP just two years ago and Arenado finished third. They declined slightly last year, and then Goldy fell off a cliff and Arenado lost all his power this year. The FA signings have been bad, all prospects bust or become good in other organizations after being traded for nothing.

There's nothing to be excited about either. Masyn Winn seems like a player. Maybe Jordan Walker can be saved. Quinn Matthews was a beast this year and should hit the majors next years, but that's it. The Burleson, Donovan, Nootbaar are just nice complementary guys. Kyle Gibson was also fine this year, but there's zero reason to pick up his option, which has been rumored, especially if you claim you're cutting payroll and said you're rebuilding in not so many words.

I would seriously shop Gray, Arenado, Contreras and Helsley. Arenado and Contreras will be hard to move with their salaries without eating money. Mikolas and Matz are sunk costs. Stick Matz in the pen and as a fill in starter until he's inevitably hurt and just release Mikolas and eat that final year. (That was another bad extension.)

The Ozuna trade is well known. But trades haven't really been the problem, other than the bust prospect ones mentioned above. It's be player development and FA signings/extensions. (Gray and Contreras have been mostly fine. Contreras' is probably too long though).

If it was up to me, assuming they can only move Helsley and not the other 3, this would be my team next year, minus relievers.

C: Herrera
1B: Burleson
2B: Saggese
3B: Arenado
SS: Winn
LF: Nootbaar
CF: Scott
RF: Walker
DH: Contreras
BN: Donovan, Baker, Siani, Gorman

If you can trade Contreras you go with Herrera/Pages platoon at C. If you can trade Arenado, then Gorman or Saggese play 3B and some random journeyman or Fermin rides the end of the bench.

Rotations:

Gray
Fedde
Pallante
McGreevy
Matthews
(Matz, Thompson, Graceffo, Rom, journeyman X/Gibson)

Liberatore should just stay as a reliever, he's good at that and has been a disaster as a starter.

This is a misleading title. Mozeliak isn't being replaced; he's just moving into the role that Girsch had. He'll still be here from 2026 on.

Nothing's going to change until we get new ownership that cares about this team and is invested in making us a true contender.

His contract is up after 2025 and he's supposedly 'retiring' after that. Bloom got a new title with a promise to have Mo's job in 2026. Girsch isn't the GM anymore, but didn't get fired either. They're trying to find a new role for him. Like c'mon now, just fire the guy. Mo shoulda been forced to retire one year early. No reason to delay this any longer.

Even though they didn't use the term rebuild, it does seem they're at least going that route. Revamping the minors, lowering payroll, not bringing back Goldy. Katie Woo suggests they'll listen on Arenado/Gray/Contreras/Helsley/Mikolas, so at least they won't waste money aging/declining vets again.

It's uncanny how much Dewitt and Mozeliak remind me of Illitch and Holland. Once great owner and GM tandem who eventually got not only caught up to, but passed by the rest of the league and refused to adapt beacuse they're set in their ways. All the while also being tone deaf about when it is/was clearly time to rebuild and they'd rather tread in a mediocrity, only making that rebuild that much more longer and more difficult.
