I like Tripp calling out mistakes instead of constantly being an overwhelming homer, but get the right guy in your sights bruh. That was a pretty obvious bad pass and he was saying it while they were showing multiple replays of the obviously bad pass.
The look on Pesce’s face after the play was a “why did I do that?” look. He knew he messed up

I'll say it right now, with the puck on his stick, Necas has elite level playmaking ability. There is nobody else on the team who can do some of the things he's doing, and when he turns on the jets he's one of the fastest guys on the ice at any time.

If he develops his defensive game and is able to be a little stronger on his skates, he has first line talent. If we are able to move him to center, we are potentially stupidly deep at that position going forward. And if he stays at wing, I kinda want to see what he, Svech, and Aho can do together in future years.

I watched it several times this morning—including pausing it at all the key points. Dzingel is calling for the puck by slapping his stick on the ice. If the pass is made a split second later or another six inches toward center ice, Skinner could end up with the puck. The puck makes it to Dzingel's stick. Does it have a degree more difficulty, yes. But Dzingel is a professional—known for his excellent hands.
Calling out Tripp for missing an "obvious bad pass" is not supported. Had Skinner tipped the pass and or stole it, had it hit Dzingel in the skates instead of the stick, had it gone directly to Jokiharju, then it would have been obviously bad.

As it was, Tripp and you see the play differently.

Any clue what Ristos game misconduct was for?
Probably not for one thing in particular, but for just being a dick all night long.

If Svech tackles anyone else in overtime, he's the only one getting a penalty there. But because Ristolainen was doing what he was doing, they both went. Even though it was overtime, I saw that as one of those penalties they call to keep the pot from boiling over.

As for Jeff Skinner and all the fans, especially those who were booing incessantly for no real reason...

Risto was funny on the TT goal. He hit Svech along the board and Svech just brushed it off, but Risto was so focused on trying to hit Svech again, he just followed him around with his back to the play and Svech then got the puck near the net and got it over to Aho. The puck was in the back of the net before Risto even knew what was going on.

Since when did Skinner become a tough guy?

That was a tough one for Pesce and Dzingle. Pesce just reacted to Dzingel calling for the puck. In retrospect, it was a pass that should never have been made.

Necas can really fly. I can't see anything keeping this kid from becoming a top tier player in this league.

Nino is really struggling. He can't get out of his own way at this point. Maybe he is part of a package with a D to bring back a legit top 6 F.

Dougie is playing the best hockey of his career. He must be really comfortable here in Raleigh. Glad for him.

TT goal should be Aho. I know it doesn't matter, but come on.

Also, DAMN has Risto ever turned into a trash player. I thought that guy was a stone-cold lock to be one of the major defensemen of his generation. I just looked and the guy is 25 freakin years old already. This is what he is.

To have those kinds of tools and turn them into that kind of game is just a crime.

See Phaneuf, Dion and Johnson, Jack. Guy oozed raw natural talent and had all the size and physicality to make himself a top defender for a long time. But they had no toolbox, and were never coached when it still mattered not to run around trying to make the big hit playing rover instead of making the right play. By the time they reach the league it's likely too late unless you get a coach that can get the buy in that Rod got from Necas and Svech.

Yeah, “poor man’s Phaneuf” is not the track you want to be on as a top pair defenseman.

As others noted so does Pesce so I’m good with that.

it's plays like the one that happened to pesce that remind you of the margin of error for defensemen making the first pass. if you make the wrong call, it's in your net more often than not. pesce would tell you he wanted it more out in front of dzingel and dzingel would tell you he should have come up with it.

This is the correct assessment of that play. If Pesce is going to make that pass it has to be perfect. If Dzingel is going to call for it he has to make a better effort to at least not let it go right through him if the pass isn’t perfect. Tripp shouldn’t have dumped all over just Dzingel there.

I think what I'm not liking this year is that we are doing a lot of little things wrong over the course of the game. Some are excusable (Fleury trying the shot instead of just dumping it back in that led to the 2nd Buffalo goal... He's 3rd pairing for a reason and he's still very raw at this level) and some aren't (the Pesce/Dzingel screwup that led to the 3rd goal) or Nino getting in the way of the clear that kept the puck in the zone that led to the 4th goal.

This team has a ton of talent, but they're also extremely careless with the puck, often. Its almost like the push to play fast is having a detrimental impact to the team where the players are trying to play faster than they are able. If they would just take a deep breath and slow the game down a hair, they're going to be much better. They're pressing right now at moments where the better play is to just back off, and it bites them more often than not. I guess that's not surprising with one of the younger teams in the league, just growing pains I reckon.
