Good for him. Ottawa brought him to camp but ended up signing M Subban to an AHL deal instead. Glad to see DT found an NHL deal.

Tokarski putting up good numbers, 4-1-0 record in five games for the Chicago Wolves with a .933 save percentage and 1.61 goals against average.

Tok will most likely backup Kochetkov tomorrow night against Seattle if Pyotr is cleared to play. If not Martin may start and Tok would still serve as backup.

The plan is to keep Tok as backup and send Martin with Perets to the AHL.

It's a small matter but not sure why this guy has to keep earning these league-minimum, 2-way contracts. He's a solid depth guy and seems like a good teammate as well. Brings experience.
Well he was a below average AHL goalie last year, so he had something to prove to get another deal.

They could have had Logan thompson or lankinen for league minimum, somebody in Carolina didn’t do their homework last summer

Spencer Martin should never play another NHL game. Tokarski isn't fantastic. But he's a not an automatic loss like Martin has been for Carolina so far.

Positive move for the Canes.

Why do people always assume players are willing to sign anywhere? Obviously both Lankinen and Thompson were betting on themselves, looking to take playing time over salary. Being Carolina's 3rd goalie provides neither.

Not quite an "auto-loss" as he's 3-4-1 and two of those losses are against the defending Stanley Cup Champs where he had to play home and away back to back games and the Canes scored zero goals the 2nd game.

Still, Martin is shaky back there and his reaction time seems slow.

I know it's not literally an auto-loss. Nothing truly is. It's tongue-in-cheek hyperbole.

But Martin has provided only 1 quality start so far, the win against Ottawa. He's had 7 games where he played the majority of the game (not coming in late or getting pulled), and he's let in 5GA twice, and 4GA three times.

Not too many teams will win games like this.

Yep. Will be interested to see if the Canes bother keeping Martin up once he clears since Kooch is projected to return tonight

I won't pretend to know the Canes as well as Canes fans (let alone management). So I'll defer to their opinions over my own.

But if it were up to me, based on what I know, I wouldn't ever bother giving Martin a spot on the NHL roster again. Not even just opening the door on the bench or in the pressbox as a scratch. He's done.

The 3rd stringer's job is to cover some NHL starts in a pinch, without looking too out of place. He failed.

no major disagreement there, I think the only reason they might not chance sending him back down yet is the very off chance that someone else will claim before Freddy's back in the lineup. I don't doubt that Tokarski would give a better opportunity to win by default since the only way we can win with Martin right now is by putting up a 5 or 6 spot... and as the Florida games showed even that might not be enough.
