"hey, wanna take this absolute shambling mound of broken human flesh... for that good goalie you don't like because your defense is garbage, so he can embarrass the **** out of you in three months?"

"sure where do we sign"

(Btw Scotty hope you're doing ok, no matter what you're a Stanley cup champ and no one can ever take that from you)

I don’t remember the overall reaction to the acquisition of Reimer. I recall some assuming he’d be bought out - which I thought was weird, because we rolled last year with perennial waiver wire veteran McElhinney. This was certainly an upgrade (in terms of how one would view the two of them sans last year).

Anyways...glad to have him in the fold.

Never forget the day we got a usable goalie for Scott fkn Darling
I know it’s still early to be patting ourselves on the back, but...

Scott Darling: $4.15M x 2
James Reimer: $3.1M x 2

We might be getting out of Reimer what we’d hoped to get out of Darling, at a lower price. That’s a massive difference from a buyout staring you in the face.

$3.4M AAV, but

$3.1M this year and $2.25M+$0.85M=$3.1M next year in actual salary

James Reimer - CapFriendly - NHL Salary Caps

(Scott's is in AAV though, so fair point)

We’re a cap team now guys. That’s the only thing that matters. It’s a weird feeling. I don’t know what to do with my hands. What is everyone else around the league doing?

Did anyone figure out why Florida didn't just buy out Reimer?

The Darling buyout was overall similar $$, but a more favorable Cap layout for the Panthers. There was a spike in Reimer's potential buyout in 2020-21. This is due to Reimer's $2.25 million signing bonus due next year.

Cap Reimer's buyout: $950k, $3.2 million, $660k, $660k
Cap Darling's buyout: $1.2 million, $2.3 million, $1.2 million, $1.2 million

Ah, an actual explanation. So much better than my made-up explanation lol.
