This has coach Q finger prints all over it. Remember darling played for coach Q and played outstanding that's why Carolina grabbed him up.

Bobrovsky welcome to Sunrise

He posted a picture on instagram too, doing a handstand. Maybe hinting at South Florida?

But yeah, Carolina basically got rid of Darling's contract with this. Reimer might end up just being the backup.

I sure hope he’s not our starter but right now we don’t have anyone better than him. We also have Forsberg and Nedeljkovic.

For anyone curious about the buyout vs what the Reimer buyout would have been:

Darling: $1.23 million, $2.23 million, $1.183 million and $1.183 million
Reimer: $958k, $3.208 million, $658k and $658k

I would have just bought out Reimer instead of trading for Darling to buy him out.

So all that to save $1m in cap space next year .

If the Canes were to buy out Darling their cap hit would have been more than it will be if they buy out Reimer.

That's a shame. Was hoping Colorado would take advantage of the Reimer situation by leveraging extra capspace to pick up some good assets.

Seems like an odd solution for Florida to do it this way, but I guess they've got their cap hits figured out enough to feel comfortable with the buyout hit for the next 3-4 years.

Signing Reimer to that deal was a mistake from the get-go.

It’s possible the Canes view him as a backup option but it seems likely both teams will bring in starters.

I too wonder why the Panthers chose to buy Darling out as opposed to Reimer...it couldn’t have been that they were that enticed by the pick coming back they had to make this trade.
