I'm gonna bump this one. Of all the Hurricanes' signings this year, so far Eric Robinson has been the most surprising to me. I had seen him as a decent energy guy, but ultimately a 13th forward type plug. My hopes for Robinson were no more than I had for Brendan Lemieux.

We're now 26 games into the season and Eric Robinson has 8G, 9A, 17P. On pace for 54 points, though I doubt he's going to get there.

For sure you give kudos to Martin Necas who is doing all the heavy lifting on his line. But to Robinson's credit, he is an NHL player who makes space and makes simple plays and plays well defensively for us. He's the exact type of player to thrive under Rod Brind'Amour's system.

No idea why Buffalo let him go and then went and traded a second for Malenstyn or signed lafferty unless Robinson wanted to contend 😂😂

Knew he was gonna be solid the minute he signed the deal with Carolina.

I don't think the front office and scouting person in Buffalo know how to identify buy-low candidates and yet here is Robinson who they went out to get but then the coach didn't use in the skill set he had shown in Columbus - namely PKing and energy shifts. They gave him under 20 seconds a game in PKing time alone. Part of it was the coach - anyone who discourages a player to finish his hits and then is given a player who grinds by finishing his checks - but it seems like this is just more of the disconnect between staff and personnel and coaching.

Good on ERob lighting it up in Carolina. Run with that opportunity, and keep going as long as possible.

And even if he is a 50 pt player he shouldn't be playing with Necas.

I love Eric Robinson just because he's been a beast for my team's in franchise mode. Especially come playoff-time. You could say I'm a fan now, so glad to hear he's doing well in the real world. A year ago it looked liked he might be out of the league soon.

If he compliments Necas to allow Necas to do what he's doing, there isn't anything wrong with that. Some lines need the guy who will mine the corners and go to the net but don't show up as much on the scoresheet, Pascal Dupuis style.

People really underestimate the value of having a 3rd wheel on a line who is willing to keep the game simple. Guys who will win corner battles and retrieve pucks, or go hard to the net pulling defensemen with them and creating space for more skilled linemates to operate, or screen the goaltender/dig for rebounds when said skilled players shoot...

It's not that unlikely in my opinion. Some players definitely might be willing to sacrifice some short-term money to get themselves into good situations. Look at someone like Lankinen, for example.

Your pro scouting department needs a raise.

I swear… it feels like every player that leaves Buffalo goes on to find success.

It’s depressing as a Sabres fan. Something is just truly broken in Buffalo.
