I didn't think Reimer was bad. Not sure what he could do on any of them in regulation. Banked off a dman with the dman and a player on top of him, a weird double deflection, and a shot I doubt any of our goalies stop. The OT goal is the only one he could have done better on for sure, and it wasn't an easy opportunity against. He had some quality saves too. And with Mrazek nursing that injury, he was gonna get one of these two games.

Today’s game aside, if we can get the top seed I much prefer we see Nashville than Dallas in the playoffs. Not worried about Dallas at all but I think Nashville just doesn’t matchup against us well and would be as close to an easy series win as you can get in the playoffs (yeah I know look at Tampa 2 years ago). Really need to win in reg. tomorrow.

Not sure what game ya'll were watching, but the Canes didn't play that bad. Pretty commendable with all of the injuries.

Rod must have layed it into the boys, our last few OTL's we got off our game of trying to maintain possession. This time we were a probably a bit too careful.
Like I said, I personally don't think either team played bad or good. Just not gonna get the best either way with all those guys out. Glad we got a point trailing twice and by two goals at one point. And like I said the last three times, OT is weird. We rode the confidence of it earlier this year and now we suck at it and are riding that wave.

3 straight seasons in the playoffs for the first time in franchise history? Certainly in Hurricanes history.

They had a stretch in Hartford where they made the playoffs a bunch of times in a row, back when it was really hard not to make the NHL playoffs. For context, several of those teams were under .500.

I don't remember what the number was, like 6 or 7 seasons I think. We could probably pull that off with this group as long as nothing goes way off the rails.

I like the potential matchup with Nashville as well. I just want to get back to close to reasonable health for either team, or the other options.

I don't really care who we play, I have full confidence we can beat anyone 4 times in 7 games.

Dallas plays with more of a nasty edge that bodes ill for a first-round series. That's the kind of team that will a) upset you in a shocker, or b) take out a couple of key guys so you lose the next series.

Nashville's no walk in the park either, but I would really dislike a Dallas matchup.

We thrive off of speed in OT, not by being way too patient. I get the puck possession game but you gotta at least put the puck on the net. Create odd man rushes with good D play and make them pay for it. Basically what Dallas did....

This! Also, they obviously have experience and confidence from last year's run. Of course we will be playing the Preds two more times at the end of this season so :: shrug ::.

Hopefully we can clinch home ice in the division (and potentially beyond), which will help no matter who we play.

Assuming most everyone is healthy and Reimer has a nice comfy seat in the press box.
I mean put it in perspective, we're also at the end of a grueling road trip where we played the 2 top challengers to our claim as division champions (and possibly home ice advantage until the Finals). Dallas just finished a 6 game stint against Columbus and Detroit where 4 of them were played at home.

One team had been through the ringer and the other had target practice on Saturday. Squeezing a point out of tonight is a really damn good effort by the team.

Also, come the playoffs, everyone is going to be dealing with the same amount of rest between games. There won't be the kind of schedule mismatch that we have seen lately. Plus, get this team back home, so they can sleep in their own beds, and things will improve quickly.

Not to mention, we rallied from down 2-0 and then again late in the 3rd. This wasn't some low effort throwaway game.

Florida lost 4-1. 2 points up with 2 in hand

And up 3 on Tampa with 8 games left and they have a bit harder schedule rest of year. I still like our odds of winning the division, but all it would take is a couple more losses for Tampa to pass us. We really need to string some more wins together so we can potentially clinch with a couple games to spare where we can rest up a bit.

It's always dangerous to read tone into written quotes, but Rod sounds a tad prickly there. He clearly sees this group fighting through adversity to get these OTL points that leave us fans frustrated.

He's right. We've gotten spoiled in a hurry. They got down 2-0 and still came back and got 1 point and were frankly dominating the OT, and if a break doesn't go against them with Vinny losing an edge, they've got every chance to get two.

This team is in the driver's seat to win the division and have home ice for two or three rounds, and with Colorado stumbling, still an outside chance at the actual President's Trophy. What more do we want?
