Sighhhh DB with his daily Canes beating with Kouli on XM, on the trade again. I think his main beef is that we got a rebuild package for non-rebuilding team. What the heck else could we do here other than cut bait? The dude was coasting and not giving any effort. You can’t keep here for a playoff run.

How is Tank and 2 firsts and 2 3rds a rebuild package? Its literally a window extension. By next year Tank will produce, most likely what Necas was producing here with more of a fit. These are terrible takes.
Im willing to bet Jankowski turns out to be better value than Drury too considering their contracts. Drury was damn near useless and we got someone who I think is a little better for league min for another season.

Yeah, if Stankoven, Nikishin, and Morrow pan out to what they could be, they'll greatly extend the contention window, potentially by a decade-plus.

I have a feeling the wheels will fall off Salas next year. Rant making a low effort 12 million while Hintz, Robertson, Johnston, and Heiskanen all make 8.5 or less could cause some locker room issues. Especially when that contract causes them to lose some room favorites to the cap. That 2026 pick might be higher than expected

Rantanen will probably be perfectly good in Dallas. 80-90 points every year and a true top line winger. He’ll also be out of sight out of mind eventually because he’s in the West and we’ve got our own team to worry about.
Hate-casting him as eventually falling off hard isn’t really necessary. He’ll be good, with the rising cap he’ll be more or less worth the contract, and we’ll be on to bigger and better things.

I’m ok with dr poopoo and mr peepee on a radio station hating how all this went down. Only the people with the largest picture understanding of this organization are going to appreciate the end game result of Necas+Drury+picks for a return of Stsnkoven+Hall+picks ended up being a fair trade off for a guy who had 1.5 years left and was absolutely going to UFA next summer. We just have to face it, the optics of this deal are bad. The best way to combat that is to have an absolute monster summer.
DB is worthless, frankly. But I'm sure his family loves him and will care for him in his dotage. Kouli at least danced around the notion that Rants was tanking, talking about "body language" on the ice, but nobody bit.
Also, since the trade with COL, the language on Sirius about Necas has gone from "good player" to "a star, potential superstar." Amazing how his development jumped literally overnight!
Always remember when listening to national hockey media: these guys are starf***ers and know next to nothing about any team not in Canada or a major media market, beyond what's regarded as conventional wisdom.

Reports are they did ask to speak to Rantanen about an extension and the Avs said no. They were told he had expressed interest in extending with Carolina so they rolled the dice.

Well one look at Woody , i would have bullied him too lol this would have never happened to someone like Brian Burke type , lets get some Canadian in there , seems we arent afraid to tell someone to f*** off , My Ottawa boy (brindy) was man enough to kinda throw the GM and owner under the bus
I'm sorry but there is no world where a rational argument can be made that drury was worth a 1st.
Having said that, i'd love to hear an argument, anyway.

He’s not worth a 1st in a vacuum but a 1st from a perennial contender 3 years out really is not worth a whole lot. The value of a 1st round pick declines every year further out in the future it is. That’s the main point I was making. A 2nd in 2025 from a team like Buffalo would be worth more than that and I think it could
be argued that Drury’s value isn’t far off of that.
Counter-point: they replaced Drury at half the cap hit by giving up a 5th round pick for Jankowski.
