It's just sad that fans blame a player, Rantanen was traded to Carolina, without any control of his own.... I would like to know how many of you would treat that same situation as it would be your own fault... You didn't ask to be traded to McDonald's but burger King flipped you, but because of the trade, everybody hates you because they feel that you are greedy.... Wtf... I hope Rantanen kicks your behind just because your unreasonable loyalty cravings... Everyone made decisions based on the financials, but only the millionaire is the bad one, none of the billionaires who actually traded people... Sportsfans are just emotionally to invested to make rational decisions.
Tradeability is a fundamental quality in any NHL SPC. Unless the player gets an individually negotiated protection against a trade (and quite often pays a premium for it in his salary ask), he signed up with the NHL as a whole and is paid upwards from a million dollars per year to play for any team that pays his salary and not just some few favorites of his. If it's McDonalds that's paying me ten millions a year, I'll be at the counter and smilingly apologizing the patrons that the ice cream machine is broken even if I would've liked a cardboard crown better.

I'm sorry, Mikko, is this all hurting your feelings? Bless your heart. Not everyone is gonna like you, sweetie. Learning that is just part of growing up.

Now shoo.

Its the fact he "Knew last week" and f***ed around causing a 4m cap gap because we couldnt get any more deals done. Its the fact he phoned it in while here.

He's a primadonna and the team that he was scoring a PPG on for years decided to cut him loose rather than deal with his bullshit. There's the other way of looking at it. Meanwhile the dumbf*** just signed in dallas for the same amount he could have been playing next to mackinnon and makar for.

If he’s going to refuse negotiations with Carolina after an offer was made post Four Nations, and his mind has been made up about not signing here well before the deadline, don’t drag your f***ing feet and screw over the rest of our deadline plans by forcing this through last minute. Have some common courtesy for an organization that put the work in to trade for you, and give them a chance to execute on contingency plans. Also, don’t be a f***ing bitch and sulk/not put in the effort on the ice. That’s inexcusable diva bullshit.

So days after being screwed by said player, you come to our board to tell us how to feel. The balls on this guy...

It's not his fault for being traded you say? He signed in Dallas for 12 million per. He reportedly was offered in that range and absolutely could have signed for that in Colorado but he chose not to. Colorado was well within their right to not let him walk for nothing and have a budget that they wanted to stick to.

I'm not going to speak for anyone else but I hate what he did and not him personally. He came to Carolina, half assed it, potentially costing us games that could decide whether we're 2nd or 3rd in the Metro, and then dicked us around until the last minute when he knew he didn't want to be here last week according to his own words. We easily could have made the same deal either late Thursday night or early Friday morning. He could have gotten his deal and would could have had the time to make our team better but he chose to be a dick for no reason. I'm not going to be happy that Lord Rantanen graced us with his presence. With his work ethic here, he can kick rocks permanently as far as I'm concerned.

Who even are you? You come here, unwelcomed, and want to dictate how we feel. This perhaps would have gone better if you had let some time go by but no, you had to get this luke warm ass take out now while the wound is still fresh. I feel the opposite that I hope we beat his ass black and blue every time he steps on the ice with us. Now get lost and never come back.
Bunch of jurcos be like

Finally someone with rational thinking. Because nothing makes more sense than simping a millionaire on internet discussion board. Leave Mikko alone!!

This doesn't seem like it's real, I thought it was AI, but it seems like this is directly said to Adam Gold in an interview. Canes Corner Podcast from last night, ~13:50.

That's a shocking amount of candor from RBA.

Definitely…sure doesn’t make Tulsky and the rest of the front office look too good does it? Where was the due diligence in this process?

Looking at your comment history, you're apparently a Leafs fan who comes out of hiding every couple years to post trash about the Canes.

Bold of you to think you'd be welcome in here.

Rod is always a straight shooter, but this kind of makes me want to go down a “what did they know and when did they know it” kind of rabbit hole of questions. Like from this it sounds like rantanen had his mind made up as soon as the trade happened and let someone know that pretty much immediately. Was it Brind’Amour himself? Was it Tulsky? If it was the former why didn’t that get communicated to the latter? If rantanen didn’t let anyone know that what was the justification of holding up any deal that may have been on the table?

That's the f***ing thing, they DID do their due diligence here. Colorado ran this by Mikko and he relayed he would be interested in extending here, which is how the deal got done. So in this whole mess, either Colorado was lying, or Mikko and his agent were lying.

And given how they f***ed us on the way out the door, I guarantee you it wasn't Colorado who was lying.

Which is entirely f***ing horseshit if now Brindy is outright saying that the second he gets here he's telling everyone he can about how he doesn't want to be here and there is no way he's extending. Seriously, f*** that guy, he's the kind of player you celebrate tearing an ACL.

I think LA and Florida came up as options of interest as well so possibly even cross out Colorado, which would be mind blowing to me.

Apparently LA wasn't one he was willing to resign with, so that's why they dropped out early. And I assume Florida was included for the same reason Carolina was supposed to be a fit: They have a Finnish center that he supposedly likes.
