Insurance with Murphy out 3-4 weeks. Plus Faulk left the last pre-season game mid way through the 2nd and hasn't been back on the ice yet (not at practice today).

Solid signing. SOMEBODY should have signed this guy. At worst, a decent 6/7 with a big RH shot.

The Canes D was already very young, but with Murphy out..and Faulk currently injured (not sure how serious), the D would have been:

Hainsey: 35
Slavin: 22 - 1 year Pro exp
Pesce: 21 - 1 year Pro exp
Hanifin: 19 - 1 year Pro Exp
McKeown: 20 - 0 years Pro (AHL/NHL) exp
Fleury: 20 - 0 years Pro (AHL/NHL) exp

I know that Nakladal doesn't have much NHL experience, but the Canes couldn't risk it by having 2 rookies and 3 second year guys.

Good solid defender. Plays a steady consistent game. Nothing flashy but gets the job done.
Good signing Car. @#$% BT.
Maybe I should put the blame on Gaudreau as BT's handcuffed until GH signs.

Happy he finally found a new home in the NHL. He looked like he belonged last season and he has a howitzer of a shot.

What a steal, I thought he was going to resign after Johnny signed, good deal for the Canes, hopefully he gets some PP time there, could play a solid 15 minutes a night IMO

Calgary didn't want to give him a 1 way deal so that's why he didn't sign there. Canes gave him a 1 way deal.

He's an solid 3rd pairing guy, idk why Calgary let him go

because calgary has wideman and engelland on the bottom of the roster making $10 mil and grossman still on a pto for some reason. nak would have been our 5th best dman at worst and he straight up is much better than engelland or wideman. this is a smart move for the canes. he's going to have a good year.

a lot of my enthusiasm for bt is wearing off due to his inability to move the bloated dead weight off the roster this offseason. nak should be on the team over wideman 100 times out of 100.

It's an absolute joke that Calgary couldn't re-sign their 4th best d-man because of ridiculous contracts to a bunch of plugs. And the worst part is, it looks like they'll sign Grossman to the same deal.

Another great move by the canes this summer.

4th best defenseman? Really? Come on. That's being ridiculous.

Kulak is the only one who's debatably better, and he isn't even a lock for the roster. Wideman is bad, Engelland is bad (but punches people, which I appreciate and find necessary), and Jokipakka is the definition of average.

Nakladal is a reasonably decent bottom pairing guy, but I think he has been overrated by Flames fans pretty badly.

Jokipakka, Engelland and Kulak are all better options for our bottom pair in my opinion, based on the structure of our top 3.
