Well, a lot was made of the goaltending before the game, but 33 saves (including some clutch ones at the end) for Ward at the end of the night. Not too shabby.

Cam performed well overall, but I still don't love the call by Peters. Just seems like an odd way to handle things. But it's also not like we didn't know he was capable of a decent game.

I don't think the issue was how Cam would perform tonight, it was more a case of give Lack a few games in a row to see how he does. Even Forslund commented about it so it's not a HF posters thing only.

I don't have a big deal either way who started, but I can see why people want to see Lack get a few games in a row.

And Ward is gonna play in Montreal, because he won tonight, or loves to play in Montreal or whatever. Just gotta hope he wins again.

The question is can you replace him in a trade? I seriously doubt we'd get much for him. He's got 12 goals now in 56 games. While that's not great, it could be 20 goals over an entire season. At this point can we look a gift horse in the mouth?

As much as I like Derek Ryan, and we've all joked about the "unsustainable" stuff, he's a playmaker on a team with almost no finishers. You got the bun, the pickle, the ketchup and the cheese, but without the meat it's still not a burger.

he has 11 goals actually. and those 11 goals come with an unsustainable 16.9sh% and gobs and gobs of powerplay time and favorable zone starts. and it's not like he's putting up tons of assists--he has 12. he could theoretically have 20 goals if he were to have a bunch of shooting luck, but he could just as easily have 7 goals over an entire season. i'm pretty sure we had this exact same discussion about chris terry.

there's no reason whatsoever to re-sign him to anything except a two-way deal. i absolutely don't want a guarantee that he's on the roster, which is what a one-way deal on this team does. he had a couple good hot stretches but since then has been a complete ghost on most nights. 5 points in his last 27 games. he's small, slow, and incredibly weak. at least chris terry was strong for his size. ryan gets pushed off the puck by a swift breeze. he makes TT look like a power forward.

he's a good AHL player, nothing more. has some nice hands/vision but not much else.

On the flip side without the bread and condiments, the meat is just a boring low carb meal.

Seriously though, what would you expect to get from Derek Ryan sans a package deal? A 3rd rounder? How does that help us? It probably doesn't. A playmaker with the upside of 20 goals who would probably sign a dirt cheap contract might though.

ryan's a UFA.

i don't know. i want someone who can have some positive effect on the game when he's not scoring or creating offense, which ryan hasn't been for months. he's a ghost most games. i'd rather bring back stalberg or find some other random bottom sixer than bring back ryan.

he's not scoring 20 goals at any point in time in the NHL. even this season with his unsustainable shooting percentage he's at a 16 goal pace over 82 games. he'd have to shoot at close to 20% over a full season to get 20 goals unless he figures out a way to generate more shots.

And dare I say, Faulk was very good defensively tonight? At first, I was thinking Peters put Pesce and Slavin back together to get a better shutdown line, but I'm not so sure. Early on, Hanifin and Pesce struggled pretty badly against Jagr's line being hemmed in repeatedly. Now I'm thinking maybe Peters put Faulk with Hanifin to help that pairing out?

Of the 18 skaters on Carolina tonight, only 3 of them were alive when Jagr made his NHL debut. :amazed: Ryan, Staal and Stempniak.
