Not top tier Marvel by any means, but it was entertaining. I liked it better than a lot of the recent movies.

It felt more like a bridge movie to finally steer the franchise in a specific direction and tying up a lot of loose ends. A lot of people seem to be trashing it for those reasons but I didnt mind the mash up...it just comes the with the territory of being a shared universe. (I also have a soft spot for the 08 hulk movie so I appreciated the callbacks).

I didn't see it yet but I don't need it to be CA: The Winter Soldier, just be the 1st Captain America or Captain Marvel level mid and I'm happy. Hopefully it's nothing like The Falcon and Winter Soldier, which was among the worse of the Disney+ series.

Makes it sounds like Civil War. But, for fans, that was a mini Avengers movie, so they were ok with it not being solely Cap focused. This one, without the Avengers, won't hit the same.

Wilson, doesn't have the serum, so his fight scenes can't be over the top. Can't take the punishment that Rodgers took, or have the stamina to "do this all day".

Sometimes being part of a big universe and looking to setup other stuff hurts the individual movie.

Just got back from it.

It was decent and at times could have honestly been great. Some of the action scenes were honestly really cool, they did a decent job at going for the Spy Thriller theme(Though maybe a little too forced at times as well).

Can't help but wonder how different it might have been had they not cut so much of the movie, particularly more of the spy stuff.

And ultimately what's gonna kill them for this movie was the trailers. I mean holy shit talk about giving away the entire movie before you even see it... The movie is averaging basically a 50% score in most areas right now(Rotten Tomatoes, IMDB, etc.) But I honestly think if they had released zero trailers for the movie those scores jump up to like 75% here.

They absolutely screwed themselves.

It was fine. I was expecting it to be worse with all the buzz about it. It's a decent action movie set in the continuing MCU. But it really needed to be more than just fine with the way things have been going in the MCU. Biggest problem is this was really more of a Red Hulk movie than a Sam Wilson movie. And I'm not one to blast Sam Wilson for not being Steve Rodgers but it's hard not to acknowledge that they're not writing him with enough of a compelling story.

Rodgers worked so well because his strength of character defined him more than the serum that gave him superstrength. He was written in a way that he was always being presented with choices and situations that would have compromised the moral conviction of lesser men and Steve always ended up choosing the heroic course of action even when it cost him or harmed him. Wilson's biggest challenge is proving to himself that he's worthy of taking up the mantle.

I think the best way I can illustrate it is, in Endgame, when Rodgers is able to summon and wield Mjolnir-on the basis that the weapon can only be wielded by those most worthy-no one is surprised that Rodgers is able to do it, they're excited specifically because the same way Stark's intangible superpower was his intellect, Rodgers' moral fiber and strength of character was his true superpower and it's a cathartic experience to see it affirmed. Could anyone imagine Wilson doing that? Would it feel earned or properly developed? I'd say no at this point.

I think the movie needed to do more to establish that if Wilson is going to be a true successor as Captain America. He's doing his best to follow Rodgers' example and I don't even mind him in the role. It just doesn't feel the same, and that doesn't help get the MCU back to its former glory.

I feel like this movie would be better had The Falcon and Winter Soldier hadn’t happened and they incorporated part of that storyline into this movie instead. The first half would be Sam’s self doubt whether or not he’s worthy of the shield, and then he gets his shit together at the end when faced with the threat of the Red Hulk.

I loved it. Overall, it was a great movie, especially for a franchise that has been bad for several years now.

I do agree the trailers were the downfall. What they should have done is advertise the Leader and Sidewinder as the baddies and try to save Hulk as a surprise

just finished it. not bad as i thought it would be. trailers gave away too much. but red hulk was terrifying "spoiler" should be bruce banner whenever marvel decides to bring back to his nastiness. action was good. slow pace but okay. 8/10

I don't want to say it would have been interesting, but this film felt like it had a coherent vision at one point, that it thought it had something to say. And whatever that was got muddled into incoherence in reshoots.

It was fine, I guess

Also I don't want to say Harrison Ford phoned it in, but it did feel like he was putting forward the least amount of effort he thought was required .

I have many issues with this movie. This could have been a solid Captain America movie. However, it wasn't.
The writing, the editing, an incomprehensible storyline, horrible CGI, questionable sporting cast casting. Wasting the villains, wasting the Red Hulk.
The movie I want to see is Isiah in his prime storming through North Korea. He has a good backstory that should be explored.

At this point in the MCU, I can't see them going outside of their core group of characters. Even Shang Shi, I would question the quality of a sequel. Feels like all of the remaining solo movies (Strange 3, Capt Marvel 3, Black Panther 3 all might be just used to setup the remaining 2 Avengers movies). Hope not, but would not be surprised.

This movie had a bunch of re-shoots. So, the storyline wasn't clean from the start. Really need to nail down the storyline before shooting.

So, having a movie that doesn't link up to the current timeline, not sure how that benefits the MCU.

It had a good opening weekend. See how it holds through to next weekend.

I don't really think the story was incomprehensible. It just wasn't very compelling. If anything it was fairly simple given how this was marketed as a sort of international politics thriller.

Out of all the criticisms someone could've made about this movie in this thread this is probably the one I was most hoping not to see. Not sure why I had hopes that this would be the movie that got the MCU to start writing decent stories again, should've known better

Another post-Endgame with MCU movie with a crappy mess of a story? Seems to be the reoccurring theme here
Not all, Shang-Chi and the second Doctor Strange I thought were really good. Everything else has been a f***ing mess and completely uninteresting. This movie is just another one, not one part of it seems interesting enough for me to actually want to drive and spend money to go see it. I feel physically done after End Game personally.

"I need you to clear that park". Five seconds later zero people in the area. So lame sequence.
Plot armor is awful, it's awful in every movie but this time it's off the charts.
