This was and is the right choice, many wanted Joshua and that would of been fine but Lurch on the ice gives you everything he has on every shift and never backs away

Morrissey is the best player that's a leader. Lowry is probably the best leader. Either would have been a fine choice.

I'm fine with this, I think that Lowry embodies all of the qualities you want in your team captain. He's no superstar, but I think he'll do well as team captain.

Wow, I’m surprised but I’m not surprised. I was convinced it would go to Morrissey, who not only displays leadership on the ice but is our best player.

On the other hand, I can’t think of a more deserving player than Lowry. He is also regarded as one of the most valuable third liners in the entire league.

Most teams by default give the captaincy to their best player, the Jets have not in the past with both Ladd and Wheeler instead going with leaders on the ice and in the room which by all accounts is what Lowry is.

Really was always probably going to be between him and Morrissey. There was rumblings last week that it was going to be Lowry it seems.

Don't really have a qualified opinion on who or who should not be captain. as long as there no great elevation in role, depth chart, pp1 time etc. The players on the team are the most qualified of anyone to say who the captain should be now, and they have spoken (assuming it's players vote).

The ~40-games without a goal was definitely brutal. However they did score fine with Nino on it. They should have 1-2 3rd line wingers now that may be superior than both Appleton or Barron, or whoever else they had majority of last year.

Congrats to Adam, who has demonstrated leadership qualities time & time again. A worthy choice for the "C".

But having said that...

The unintended result of this is that we'll most likely be witnessing the last days of Mark Scheifele in a Jets uniform. After years of him being (unofficially) groomed to be Wheeler's successor as captain, and for him to now be passed over, well, given Mark's ego, I just don't see Mark accepting this. Sure, publicly, he'll say all the right things & support the decision, but privately, his "me first" attitude won't accept this well. I hope I'm wrong. Just my $0.02 worth.

Plenty of NHL captains are not the leading scorers on the team. A captain is a leader on what he says and what he does. Its why say Sidney Crosby is a great captain because he is a guy plays emulate when they see how hard he works.

They kind of do that anyway. He's third line/15 minutes a night regardless of what he does for the last 7 years. He's not exactly getting better. Hopefully with better wingers that changes but not counting on it.

Good choice probably. Not surprise it wasn't Josh because Adam is the "put the actual C on his chest 'cause he's gonna lead by example and won't get distracted in any way from his role"-kind of captain while Josh I feel like will have games or stretches in which he needs to be the #1 defenseman of this team first and mostly and a captain second. Not sure you get what I'm trying to say I think you will.

I'm sure they wanted to do this right after Maurice left but there was no way to do it when you have his dad be the interim coach and then they made it up to Bones and he probably said "let's roll with a bunch of As until next season because then I know the players well enough" and he now agreed to Adam being the best fit. At least this would make sense to me.

He had a career high in points last year and I would wager he will get another career high this year with better wingers.
