Ok, let's just assume that's true without any real data or proof. That's to be expected for the youngest goalie pair in the league, no?
The problem is that they don't seem to be improving that part of the game.
In fact both are really struggling in improving the fundamentals.
I know I'm always on Vanecek about how small he plays. He goes down very early and couches low in his butterfly.
I have a still of the first goal against him tonight. He was down so early and his body was very compact. He also didn't play the angle very well. The entire glove side was wide open. The way he played that it would have been almost impossible for him to make a save.

That first line is really carrying this team right now. The injury situation will really be noticed when they cool down a little bit. Nice that the Caps are similar to the Pens now in that they seem to be able to just plug guys in when injuries hit and continue winning.

Not at the NHL level. Maybe if it was a goalie playing their 1st NHL game. Many NHL goalie coaches teach their goalies to control movements. Bobrovsky comes to mind the most, but he has super athletic ability to move side to side. Vitek is not that athletic. He gave up a soft rebound to his glove-side, Sabres player was gonna try to put it the net. Vitek needed to get his left skate/pad to the post and he badly overplayed it. A lot of times, if a goalie overplays his blue crease then you are asking one of your d-men to bail you out. Sammy is more likely to overplay side-to-side movements because he relies a lot on his reflexes. Vitek is better with controlled movements, but still overplays because he made a poor decision. Both goalies are still making a lot of AHL goalie mistakes...

Does seem odd to give only 5 min each to Leason and AJF when their line was making things happen each shift and when they seemed noticeably more effective than the 73-20-10 line and when they, unlike 62, stayed out of the box

Did Vanecek get hurt at the end there?
